$1000 for the 80. Where do I start?

Another piece of advice is spend quite a long day reading up on expedition portal...... see alternatives to $$$$ brands. Goal Zero is a great brand but very pricey if your budget is small. There are many cheaper alternatives and many threads on it over there and how people put their own solar packs together. If you have your heart set on goal zero don't let me deter you though they are a great company and their product is solid. If I had more $$$ I would buy their products in a heartbeat. :)

The had a nice booth at Overland Expo East, very nice stuff indeed but I couldn't justify the price unless I was driving across Aus, Africa or ???

I'm going to keep an eye out for sales and pick the stuff up as I can. I think I'm going to start with group two and the rack first only so I can bring the kitchen sink with us on the first trip and ensure the family stays happy. I appreciate everyone's inputs. My brother lives outside of Richmond at quantico so a trip to IPOR is in the future too I'm sure. I don't think there is necessarily a right answer for this question. It's preference and needs. I hope with the holidays coming I can snag some deals. If I just had 15k sitting around it wouldn't be a question, and I'd get a snorkel.

That's a good plan of attack. Keep your eyes peeled in the classifieds for used parts. Most of my 80 has used parts and I saved a lot of money versus buying new.
The rack is good place to start.

Ok. Just throwing it out there. It would work for a roof top tent that I saw mentioned earlier in the thread.

Baja Rack has accessories to bolt to their flat racks or ones with sides...just about anything you can think of will mount up there; tires, fuel cans, a tool box, hi Lift jack, awning, etc...

If I make it up to Richmond or my brother heads down I may go with that then. I need to check out bajaracks website...
