Hello all. I recently sourced a clean southern owned 2001 100 for my sister. I have been out of the 100 scene for a bit and hoping to get some updated preferences for the following..

apple car play/bluetooth stereo suggestion
remote start suggestion
enigine or oil pan heater

so you found a really nice, rust free 100... and you took it up to New Jersey?.....
Yes and no.

I found a really nice rust free 100 that I had the frame treated and sent it to VT. My sister lives on some serious back roads that are very snowy in the winter and very deep and muddy in the spring.

Mine came with a pretty pricey Kenwood touchscreen (model 7700 or something?) previously installed, but my 1999 has no steering wheel controls, and i hate it. Finding that tiny little button to turn the volume down or changing the channel on the radio is difficult at best. It would be a fine head unit if i had the steering wheel controls. I would get one with a VOLUME KNOB at the very least.

I added a sony a500 head unit with apple/android auto with backup camera. I love it. no steering wheel buttons but you could do that if you wanted to. I would not recommend adding a remote starter unless you can find a highly reputable installer. Too much risk of messing up the factory wiring.

Thank you !

>> Do you have factory navigation screen? If yes, you have limited options. If no, you can do a lot.
>>BT45 TOY by USA SPEC is a reliable solution if you don't need the full blown apple car play / different screen.Mine is going on 7 years with no issues
>> Replacing the screen is a hit of miss operation and the only real options are aftermarket android solutions . Search around on Mud you'll find this massive thread on the "tesla" style screen

remote start suggestion
>> I've got no help there, I try not to mess with remote starts / tapping into anything ignitions / security related due to possible issues in the future.

enigine or oil pan heater
>> There are a bunch of options but none of them are necessary in most parts of the US. We had a good week or more of -20F here and the 2UZ roars to life.
>> KATZ makes a bunch of options, maybe a magnetic oil pan heater would be the best option for easy install
>> I went with a battery heater wrap instead. Long as the battery is warm and it can turn that starter over, the motor will start.
>> Most fluids are rated down to -30 or lower. Any colder you want to start thinking about thinner engine oils and coolant ratios

Too bad US Spec doesn't support anything older than 2002...

I have this in my ‘98. Figure out what the pin out is on the back of your head unit, and call it a day - unless you want CarPlay. The sound quality and reliability of these cheap Bluetooth adapters is fantastic, and they go in super quick. And I still have a volume knob.

I've done a ton of remote starts, wiring diagrams and basic electrical skills are your friends. I put an MPC kit in my '06, works great. Only thing I couldn't get to function was the auto tilt wheel when remote started.
