If you have had an original transmission fail in your 100 series, before or after you purchased please state the production date. if you do not have the exact day, please just post what is listed on your VIN plate, should be something like 12/99. Also if its in your records, please list when the failure occurred, mileage would also be helpful.

This is for data gathering only to try and piece together the dates in which the transmissions were built and most prone to failure.

No chit chat, no debating just dates - Thank you.

Sorry, but this thread needs some chit-chat.

No one has data on this?

Curious... ever once in awhile I think I feel my transmission shift hard.

I thought that thread got zapped when the server crashed and I hadn't put up a new one.

I only had one person PM me.

The offer is still there. PM me with the your VIN, Trans serial # if available, date of assembly and mileage at failure and I'll work on getting a range of units that may have the bad parts.

Then I'll post in this thread.

My thought was that some wouldn't want to post their VINs on the big ole internet but that they could be useful for creating a VIN range.

or whatever ...

More trans chat -

Wholesale Automatics in Australia has a new valve body for our A343 transmissions -

Toyota Land Cruiser A343F Nomad & Extreme Valve Body

"we hear owners constantly complaining about the quality of their 4 Speed Toyota A343F Automatic Transmission when shifting through the gears, most come from everyday drivers who simply can't stand the constant slipping and flaring between the gears. We have had dozens of owners contact us about improving the transmission in some way to overcome the problem. We put together a development program and have come up with a cheap and easy way to turn your A343F 4 Speed Toyota Land Cruiser Automatic Transmission into a nice crisp shifting transmission without having to remove the transmission from the car",

Full details here at www.automatictransmission.com.au

Who will be the first to install one and tell us if it's worth it ?

Fixed it.

Hi, I have a 2001 and a 2003 LC100, both transmissions were scrapped last year. Main cause is heat, through the constant slippage of the converter, that uses the oil of the transmission. Had a long conversation with this Australian company but found a lot of bad stuff on the forum, people being dissapointed and such. So I brought the transmissions to a local company that took it apart and than we studied the remains. We had a chamber made for a bigger end bearing and renewed all of the interior. I had the line pressure set higher and mounted the transmission back into the first car. I also had a temperature gauge installed, so I can see what is happening. I am running it for about a year and a halve now, and it seems to work good. Shift from first to second under full load and full throttle isn't as smooth as it was anymore, but it shifts quicker now. The rest you hardly notice any difference. I am not sure if my worries about the Australian company are correct. Maybe what they do is great. They say they modifie for the Abu Dhabi market with 500+ Hp as well. I am also very interested in any comments from others. Hope this is of any value.

Toyot4wd had a writeup on these Nomad valve bodies recently. They deemed it "the best upgrade since lockers".

I am interested to know the towing capability increases. However, there are no numbers published for gains.

I've been eying that valve body since I had my 80. Anybody on MUD tried one?

I can see how the valve bodies can improve the shifting performance, but how the heck do they enable the trans to handle 'double the power and torque'? I would think the rated loads would be mechanically limited not hydraulically limited. Further, would the crisper shifting aggravate whatever failure mode that exists?

Higher fluid pressure. I'm not buying into the increased loads per say, but firmer shifts equals less clutch slip equals less heat generated. Trans. temp is something that I already monitor and have been concerned about. Can't answer the last question. Good point.

That's a good point about the valves limiting the slip and the effect that has on heat. Did you also see their lock-up switch? It doesn't look like there is any electronic module involved - I wonder how hard that would be as a DIY? Would be nice feature to have.

Sure did and I see myself running one of those when I do the VB. Trans temps vary wildly in my 100 in stop and go traffic, and on the freeway. Freeway stop and go is the worst. +40 deg swing. I'm thinking about putting in an AUX electric fan on the trans cooler, and set it to come on about 145.
