If all you want are some load bars for your factory rack look on Craigslist for some Thule or Yakima’s. If your going to drop $500-600 on load bars for your stock rack I’d just go ahead and spend the money and get a kick ass rack like a Dissent or Gamvetti. There are others out there as well, but the two I mentioned would get my money.

x2 on what Sammybones said. The Thule Crossroad 450 feet with their square bars work perfect. You can also run bars that are quite a bit wider than the factory rails. You should be able to find the whole set for $150 or less. They will also fit on any other vehicle that has the raised bars running front to back.

Otherwise, go big. Rhino Rack makes a 3 bar set up that mounts to the factory mounting holes if you don't want a platform. That setup runs about $600 though.

If your mechanically inclined load bars and feet are pretty easy to make if you have access to a drill and a welder.

I added Yakima crossbars to my stock rails and they held up a Yakima rooftop tent without issue (had a buddy with a Yakima hookup). Its a pretty cheap and easy way to go and worked well for the last couple of years. Coincidentally, I'm in the process of building a roof rack that will eliminate the need for the crossbars right now, so could sell them to you for a good price if that's the direction you're looking to go. Conveniently, I'm just up in Longmont.

To further hotdiggitydamn's comments, I read that anything adding height to our roofs will further decrease our already sucky mpgs. Also, if you don't use the rack a lot then you will have to take it on and off. So if you leave it on and don't use it you are killing mpgs. I created a lowrise roof rack using our existing rack rails and using some 80/20 extrusion and angle brackets. They have them in black anodized products also, but it's 3x the cost. I should have made them 1/2" longer but I got the materials free from work. The front extrusion is a special piece that I used to create some aerodynamics and covered it with a strip of carbon fiber tape.

Like it! My main goal was also getting it low as possible. I literally made it to fit my index finger under so as to allow me to take my RTT off and on. Of course the tent never moves from the truck now that it’s mounted.

Man, that looks nice! I'm in the process of designing my own right now, and can't decide between running thee Gamivitti feet or rhino racks backbone feet, attached to 80/20.

Hi Jesse, which style are the cross bar? Low profile?

Thank you 🍻

I didn't know offhand, but by looking at them, they look like the Timberline mounts with the Jetstream crossbars. 60", I'm pretty sure. The mounts sit on top of your factory rails and the crossbars will be up above, so it's definitely not a low profile solution. But like hotdiggity, once my RTT was on, I never took it off. So the look of the crossbars without a tent on top wasn't a concern of mine. Happy to dig up some photos if you'd like.

Interested, which style is it? Low profile? Thank you

Will be great if you got some photo 😊 Thank you

I took my factory roof rack off and replaced it with an 8020 rack in black, sourced through T-nuts. My whole factory rack is looking for a new home, if you’d like to add factory bars to increase your capacity w/out limiting fuel economy.

This is awesome! Have you tried attaching anything to it? I'm curious if this would be good enough to hold a tent, boxes, maybe jerry cans, etc... Thoughts?

If you are worried about the strength of these extrusions they can handle alot of weight. You can see on their website all the different uses customers have come up with. I use them at work to design machines that laser mark cable and pills.

I wouldn't hesitate to put whatever you need to transport on this 8020. You could always add more bars too if needed.

As I mentioned, it's the 60" jetstream bars with timeberline mounts. Definitely not low profile. Apparently I don't have many photos, and it's not on the truck right now, but this is the best shot I could come up with showing how it mounts and looks on the vehicle. You can see my factory rails, with the aftermarket bars above them.
