I'm the worst at taking pictures and don't have any. The hook on the truck now (#6) is bent and cracked at the bend (but not brocken) from pulling a steel beam out of a little concrete. I know I should have turned around and not used it, but I had a trailer on with a couple thousand lbs of brick on it that I didn't want to fool with. I'll see if it'll photorgraph. The plate with the hole in it on the drivers side was torn apart on one of the outings where I was hopelessly stuck and trying to get yanked out. It bent around the rear bolt head, then tore from that point to the hole, which then allowed it to bend forward and become useless. I replaced it but haven't used it much. The 5 I mentioned were all the hook thing with the loop of the strap on the hook. They've all broken at the bend. They usally just pop, but a one bent first. No injuries from any of it, just aggrivation, muddy floormats and muddy seats.

well, that is definitely food for thought and downright scary. That hook looked pretty beefy to me. Darn long though is the problem I think. Shoot...

and yes, don't use the tie down hole things for recovery...

OK. Convinced. Lots of good info.
Would have said count me in as well, but the shipping....
Will look for some decent steel in the workshop instead.

Are those hooks done yet ? ....I am very Impatient !!

We have been down that road for afew years now in Aus, and have bolt on front hooks which work with the ARB bar as well.

We charge $99 Aus a pr

Also have them for thre gx470 [prado] etc.

The pic is a 120 prado unit, but 100 units look similar below the frame, they just mount at 90 deg to the prado ones.

all rated.

We powdercoat them red as well.

I'm interested as well, but have a few ?'s:

1. Why is that last bolt hole so close to the end of the bracket? Better extend the bracket a bit past the bolt hole.

2. What about making it out of Al, since stainless is probably too expensive? This would help us here in the rust-belt.

Let me know if you are having a hard time getting good quotes. We have a CNC mill at my work, and we could machine these pretty quickly. Machine is sitting idle right now. I can also do some FEA if required.

I doubt Al would be strong enough if steel hooks are breaking left and right

Al has about the same yield strength as most mild steels. There might be a bit more flex, but that will be unnoticable.

Since this is not an open hook, I'm pretty sure it will work with Al as well.

Looked up some numbers for yield strength (matweb.com)

1020 CR steel: 50,800 psi (cheap)
Al 6061-T6: 40,000 psi (cheap)
Al 7075-T6: 67,000 psi (few cents more, but worth it)

Nope...hopefully will have some pricing back from the metal shops this week. Hang in there SC!

Top job so far Spressomon,

Well I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for these, but depending on price I may be interested in 4, will get them sent to a friend in California, then ship to OZ with some other stuff, but they will need to be cheap!!!!!!!(Here's hoping) Also I would probably be interested in a smaller hole through them, to take the industry rated 4.7 WLL shackle with a 3/4" pin as I recall, as I don't want too much slop and rattling around with the shackles hanging there all the time. Also I think a WLL 4.7 tonne shackle is far big enough for any snatching/recovery work on a cruiser. I would be interested in some more info on alloy/aluminium units if the info/price comes to hand.
Thank in advance

How'd ya go Spressomon?

Any pricing yet?

Well....hunting season is over and as soon as I get through counseling :frown: and get caught up at work I am going to resume this project. Actually I just need to convert two different CAD programs and submit for on-line pricing...

The only WLL aspect we are not sure of due to our software's ability to only apply load in 90* increments is the off-angle pull. I think to add a measure of safety I am going back to my original 1.25" thick plate...which undoubtedly will cost more to purchase...

Make em` as strong as possible Spress !!...

The LAST thing I want is to break one of those suckers when I am pulling my buddy`s CHEVY out of a ditch again..That would be embarrasing !! :o

If you are making a "buyers" list for these..dont forget to put me on there !

Peace !

Hi.
If the price is not too silly, I would be interested in one or more of these as well.
Thanks,
Pete

Is there an update?

I got a price back from e-machine shop using 1 3/8" thick plate and for 100 (50 pair) their price, without finishing and/or painting was $98 each ($196/pair) plus freight. If we did a quantity of 10 (5-pair) the price goes up by 200%...crazy!

I have been absoutely slammed at work and have not had time to go around to several local CAM able machine shops. This has turned into a much more time consuming project than I thought it would be or for that matter should be.

I even thought about making a few myself. The metal to do one pair is roughly $40.00; plus $110.00 for the three drill bits I'd need...and worst of all the time to do it!

Sorry for the delay in this project...I should be able, barring anymore projects getting dumped on me at work, to check local prices in 2-weeks.

Sorry!!!
