So... For the past ___ years, we've been driving around with these air bags "improperly" programmed? Huh. I guess it's time to plug in the VIN and see if we're candidates.

Hmmm I have two trucks that might be affected. Guess I wait to hear. Maybe I should put off fixing the airbag light on my 2005..

I hopped on the Toyota Owners site and found my '04 is affected. Here's what the notice reads:

Description

The subject vehicles are equipped with side Curtain-Shield-Airbags (CSAs) which deploy from the roof rails in the event of certain types of crashes. Due to improper programing in the airbag control module, there is a possibility that, under certain specific and limited conditions shortly after vehicle startup, the CSAs and seat belt pre-tensioners could activate when not necessary. Unexpected activation of the CSAs could increase the risk of injury to the occupant.

Remedy

Toyota is currently preparing the remedy. Toyota currently anticipates the remedy to be available in September, 2016. The remedy will consist of the replacement of the airbag control module.

mine made the recall. from the looks of the types of vehicles on the recall, and the language that says "under certain specific and limited conditions shortly after vehicle startup, the CSAs and seat belt pre-tensioners could activate when not necessary." it makes me think that it may have something to do with parking on an angle and the vehicle thinking it's about to roll-over when started back up at said angle so it deploys the side curtains and tightens the belts.

oh well, off to the dealer this weekend...

Maybe @Aaron04 needs to tell the dealer that his airbags went off when he started the car while parked sideways on a hill. Perhaps they'll fix at no cost too!

Still glad I have a 2000!

No need to head to the dealer - they don't have the remedy ready

This is up as a sticky now. I plan to post any updates I have.

Mods: can we consolidate and delete one of the threads?

Wonder why the 2007 (LX470) missed the recall. Can't imagine any changes that year, given they are just now addressing programming.

I had already checked my VIN, but I received the official 'interim' notice in the mail, today.

Mr. T's recommendation: "we strongly recommend allowing the engine to idle for 6 seconds before driving to allow for correct self-calibration of the system sensors."

They state the condition WILL NOT occur if the engine is allowed to idle as described.

The suggestion is to wait until the SRS Warning light is off before driving and if light does not go off bring in for service.

Just received a letter from Toyota that the recall parts are now available and to contact a dealer to schedule the update.

Do we know which sensor is being replaced? There are several that relate to the function of the side curtain airbag & pretensioners: There is a primary airbag sensor assembly( in practical terms the ECU for all the sensors) that's located in the console under the MFD that requires seat to be removed, the upper & lower console being removed, and the lower cluster & finish panel being removed. Then there are side curtain airbag sensors in each left & right pillar positioned on top of the seat belt pretensioner which is more simple to get to, and then side curtain sensors in the 3rd row area.

Now- which dealer can I trust to do the recall efficiently with out screwing anything else up while they disassemble the inside of my truck. Lexus or Toyota?

Got my notice this week too. Let us know what you decide........I'm going to call my Toyota SA to see how many they have done here in Austin, don't want to be the test crash dummy on this. I do have to say the the tech that has been working on my truck at Charles Maund is very well versed on the 100, I won't let anyone else touch it but him.

Sports is to the dealer today and he said they've done so many of these things that it's a quick do at this point.

Found out that Lexus won't do the Toyota recall and vice versa.

That's good to hear-

I'll admit I'm a little too paranoid from past negative service experiences.

Had mine done last Thursday.
Sat around and did emails.

Washed it and brought back in about hour and half.

Didn't even really keep track time until he came over and said it's ready.

Trust me, I'm usually not a dealer guy. Especially with my BMWs. But the dealer here seems honest so I took it. Plus I have friends who work there so I'm sure if anything had happened they would have made it right.

I even told them not to wash it and they listened!

Anyone by chance know the part number of the recalled airbag control modules? Or the part number of the new airbag control modules?

I bot a 2006 and the seller said he had the recall work performed at a local dealer on 2/10/2017. Here is a pic of my airbag control module showing part number 89170-60262 and my gut tells me the replacement has not occurred.
