out of stock. fml

getting moogs for now and ordering 555s when they are back for the next bearing repacking or failure

dude don’t buy moog anything ever. Stranded in Moab on a broken moog LCA in July. Unacceptable quality.

You can see it in the video. He pulls out the outer nut, then the inner nut, then the mangled piece of star washer, then the claw washer, then the bearing. He should take the video with the FSM page back to the people who worked on it and show them it was in the wrong order and the star washer was doing nothing, and especially not stopping the nuts from backing off as it is designed to do.
Oh I saw it was not between the nuts. Just no telling where it was before it all came loose. It looked to me, as if the remains of the mangled lock washer was in sideways on the wall of hub behind edge of adjusting nut and claw washer, deep enough it reach into bearing.

No to Moog parts; waste of your time and money.

Also the grease on the bearings and hub looks like Moly fortified-which is normally black color (otherwise the black grease is evidence that the bearings have never been serviced) moly or moly fortified is not the right grease choice for wheel bearings.

I know you are just looking at ball joints but my moog LCAs elongated and finally failed where the torsion bar bracket bolts to the LCA. UNACCEPTABLE QUALITY DO NOT BUY ANY MOOG PARTS. We had to fix temporarily with fender washers. Could’ve left me stranded 1k miles from home.

We were halfway thru hells revenge in Moab and SNAP. That was the hardest wheeling I’ve done having to manage a broken LCA, and had to bend my fender to clear the tire when it was sitting on the bumpstop. Not worth your time or money is right.

i got duralast instead. im on a time crunch and need this up and running asap. my hoa doesn’t allow for “inoperable” (aka on jack stands) vehicles on driveways.

Florida HOAs... I don't miss them... I lived in Pompano Beach for a while, the most ridiculous HOA rules I've ever heard of....

I bought a 555 joint in a Duralast box a couple years back. :D

ha! hope im that lucky. how do you tell anyways?

It's stamped right on the joint. On the sheetmetal "cap", if I remember correctly.

Edit: like this pic. You can see the "555" in a little oval.

I believe the abs sensor ring is a replacable part. Probably worth it if the rest of the hub is servicable.
To remove that lower ball joint nut try cold chiseling it with verticle hits on as many slot sections as you can get to. It will expand the nut and loosen it. Remove the abs sensor ring the same way.

inventory to make sure i got everything i need and mental walk through:

Nice job.

I've a few ??
How long did "dremeled the nut off" take?
You did pack the wheel hub cavity with grease right?

started with your suggestion first, just the "wings" and tried again with pb and torque bar, no go. so i did the vertical cuts. about 1 hr including hammering the spindle to pop off the ball joint.

You did pack the wheel hub cavity with grease right?

yes sir. i did

I want to BUMP THIS as a cautionary tale to not let just ANY mechanic to service your Front hubs/ cv axles.

Post Mortem of what happened to me: I had 2 lug nuts replaced in my Driver Side hub, the re installation of hub components were not to spec and after a hard trailing and coming home, I experienced catastrophic failure of the DS side.

It was a miracle my wheel didnt fly off and kill someone else.

Now I do any front work myself.

Good info. It's frustrating how hard it can be to find a shop you *really* trust. I wish more shops paid mechanics by the hour and paid them double to triple their normal hourly rate. I'd pay Slee labor at 2-3x the rate of my local Toyota dealer or worse yet your average generic mechanic.

One reason I am glad that I live 10 minutes from @2001LC when I have things I can't do myself (don't trust myself or time). I know he doesn't miss details.

But this all certainly highlights another pain of our 100 series. All this stems from a loose stud...
