(10/21 UPDATE fixed) Wheel bearing failed.

After the tire shop broke a stud on my front, they sent me to a local mechanic to get it fixed. About a month later, it was time for me to repack my bearings. When I got into the one they replaced the stud on, the 54mm nuts were loose or just barely even finger tight. Bottom line, there are a lot of mechanics that don't know what they are doing on our truck. They don't have the factory service manual and/or don't follow it. As others have said, it's highly likely that it was not reassembled correctly when they replaced the stud. Pretty much the whole assembly needs to come apart to replace wheel studs on the front axle. I concur with previous posters, the mechanic needs to own this one. Take pictures or tow it to their shop. They need to see the damage, and pay for the repair, but don't let them do the work.

it was about a month ago the studs were replaced. I am not going back to that shop.

as it is , 2 tows came by and said nope, no way... the 3rd guy I convinced to take my rig home.

im gonna work on it myself and make sure everything is torqued to spec.

Good choice, this is what I would have done.

I'll put this here for assistance credit to wit's end

Basically everything past the disc brake I think you will want to visit. Also I bet the threads on your knuckle are grounded down. I think you'll need one of those too...

Nobody is going to accept responsibility for that lawsuit-fodder. It shouldn't be that hard to take apart and replace with new parts. I'd disassemble and rebuild the passenger side while you're at it.

^ thanks man. Im already in contact with cruiserparts about a complete hub/bearing kit.

and then ill inspect the other side and repack bearings. its time anyways.

Sorry, I feel for you. This looks like an assassination attempt. Good thing that you made it.

On the plus side, you're probably one of 3 people on this forum who can claim they've wheeled their 100 hard enough to break a wheel off

It almost looks like the rotor cracked around it's circumference and separated from the hub. Scary. Over tightened studs or heat maybe.
Yeah, I am gonna love to see the autopsy pics here

Yeah, you shouldn't be able to see this space and see the wheel:

I bet rotor cracked at disc, the other piece of rotor, flange, etc. is still bolted to wheel. Disc "ring" is just hanging on end of spindle and only thing holding tire on is a-arms.

This kills the driver

My guess is the spindle nuts/bearings were all loose/missing, and the rotor was the only thing keeping the wheel mostly in place. That stressed the rotor until it failed. Then things start falling the hell off.
