After the tire shop broke a stud on my front, they sent me to a local mechanic to get it fixed. About a month later, it was time for me to repack my bearings. When I got into the one they replaced the stud on, the 54mm nuts were loose or just barely even finger tight. Bottom line, there are a lot of mechanics that don't know what they are doing on our truck. They don't have the factory service manual and/or don't follow it. As others have said, it's highly likely that it was not reassembled correctly when they replaced the stud. Pretty much the whole assembly needs to come apart to replace wheel studs on the front axle. I concur with previous posters, the mechanic needs to own this one. Take pictures or tow it to their shop. They need to see the damage, and pay for the repair, but don't let them do the work.
