Titled as a 1979 but round bezel and mfg date of Dec 1978 would seem to indicate a 1978 but the rear heater and jump seat legs indicate 1979, but per @3_puppies rigs built between September 1978 and December 1978 were still using up the remaining 1978 parts but sold and titled as 1979's. The VIN is FJ40296267.

Body, floor pan and frame are badly rusted, so this FJ40 is not a good candidate for restoration but it would be a good parts vehicle for another FJ40 you are restoring or to part out. There are lots of parts that are still useable/salvageable such as engine, transmission, hardtop, glass, dash instruments, roll bar, rims/axles, instrument cluster, steering wheel, doors, jump seat frames, and many other misc parts.

92,254 miles on the odometer and has a clean title. First $1,500.00 takes it....

PM me with questions or interest.

It amazes me how completely throttled some rigs can get...beyond throttled....Like it was parked in a swamp for 40 years!

thanks for your constructive input...

I am going to say it’s a 78.9 just for a fun argument!

Clearly the tank is a 78 and the bezel as well but...... those rear jump legs and heater bump it to a 78.9!!!!

If you bring it to me I will give you the 1500.00 and we can continue discussing it.

Now that's constructive feedback. I'm feeling a little better now...lol

Maybe @olive can pull it for me to OK on his next trip from OH to UT. :)

It's just a gift I have -- truly, no harm intended.
You're right to call me out though, everyone can see the condition in the photos, without me expressing my amazement.
It looks to be sold so that's all that really matters !! Happy for ya

No worries...just lack of a filter between thoughts and keyboard, it happens. OH to OK transport is the issue on the first bite.

It may be titled as 79...

But.... it is a 78... gas can under seat, 4.10 gears ... bezel round, 30 Amp guage ... etc.. etc...

all the changes on the 1979's started in January of 1979, rigs built between September 1978 and December 1978 were still using up the 1978 parts but sold and titled as 1979's.

This could be a reason for a vacation for you and the wife out west:) FYI it was 77 and sunny today, how was Ohio???

High today 51 and low 31 so relatively balmy but winter is coming!

Actually I have seen factory brochures (like below) for the 1979 FJ40 that show round Bezels. This has the rear heater commonly found in 79's. The material remaining on the seats looks like 79 upholstery but it's hard to tell. It was built in Dec 78 so I think it's a very early 79. Pity this sat for so long in the elements.
