desertdude suggested (in the Land Use section) a trail cleanup in Sedona.
He'll be in town the weekend of my birfday, Oct 08 - 10.
Details haven't been worked out yet. Watch this space for updates.

Also, if anyone who decides to attend has a seat open, I'm going to try and get
some of my non-wheeling friends to come with us. Might convert a few people. :D

Thats opening weekend of quail hunting in this state. Maybe do a little quail hunting too??

Sean

All though I can now not make it on the weekend of the 9th

ya know what needs clean up real bad is at the end of Bloody Basin road at the Verde river near Sheeps bridge,. We were down there this past spring... it is a real shame.

I would like to say I could be available the weekend of Oct 15-16th ( by postponing work :) if we can get a ground swell of enthusiasm.
I have a trailer and a Tacoma we can make a huge difference in that area. As a club we should alert the FS to let them in on what we want to do. ( I think) With a nice write up and a few pics this could be submitted for a small amount of community goodwill publicity for the clubs intentions.

thoughts ?

sounds good DD, sheeps bridge area is a mess. dont matter when we do it i am always ready to go.

Unfortunately the month of OCT is pretty much shot for me. With Melissa Due on the 21st I've commited to not only staying in town but pretty much being nearly an earshot away. I have also been thinking about some of the trails in the Florence junction area. Upper Woodpecker comes to mind as a trail needing some trash patrol attention. Maybe we can organize 3 or 4 "clean-ups" a year. Never been to sheeps bridge but I'm all for getting out there and cleaning it up.

Regular schedules clean ups are an excellent idea, easier to organize... Your thoughts on alerting the FS about sheeps bridge clean up or submitting a write up with pics for some community publicity?

I would be more than happy to supply many of the necessary tools, final dumping and LOUD MUSIC to make this first clean up fun and worthy.

BTW this is a great place to camp down by the river, we could even search for the hot springs

Alerting the FS is a great idea. I think some before, during and after pics are mandatory. I'll stop by the FS office at Falcon Field tomorrow on my way home to get suggestions and find out if there's anything mandatory that we need to do to make it all legit.

Thats what I'm talking about >> Prez in action << "If you will it, it is no dream"

a nice round of applause for our leader {{{{}}}}

I will document with photos and help with text

[Bowing] Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Again, I may not be available for the actual cleanup of sheeps bridge but I'll do everything I can to make it happen.

Just about every backroad in Az. needs a trash pick up. The Crown King backroad was pretty littered. The whole network of roads and trails out by Florence Jct. is littered, at least when I was out there last Jan. All around up north is trashed too, and I'm definitely down for cleaning the crap up. Maybe we could do something like schedule 4 a year, make at least one mandatory for a mebership?

i'm hunting (drinking) that weekend too out by roosevelt, i'm out in peoria so a crown king trash ride sounds awfully easy to not miss. i'm still waiting for a monthly gathering that doesn't fall on a day that i work to get together with everybody.

These are the guys we need to talk to about the Sheeps Bridge cleanup. I am nowhere near this Ranger station. If there is anyone up north that might be able to swing by and have a discussion w/ them about our intentions, please let me know. Otherwise I will have to find a way to stop in up there at some point.

The Cave Creek Ranger District

The Cave Creek Ranger District consists of
over 570,000 acres (approximately 230,000 hectares) of Desert, Semi-desert Grassland, Chaparral, and Piñyon-Juniper types. The Verde River flows through this entire district; Horseshoe Reservoir and Bartlett Reservoir are also within this district.

From the junction of Pima Road and Cave Creek Road, drive northeast up Cave Creek Road for approximately four miles to the Bartlett Road (Forest Road #19). Drive down Bartlett Road for approximately 0.3 miles to the entrance of the Cave Creek Ranger Station on the left.

That's sorta in my neck of the woods.
I'll try and swing by there in the next week.

Any idea of hours of operation?

not offhand but I'll get some hours tomorrow.

we could even search for the hot springs

you mean you didnt see the spring when you went there? its right next to the bridge in that big stand of green bamboo grass stuff. :-) when we do the clean-up we can wash the dirt and sweat off in the hot spring tub. (was built by the sheep ranchers ya know)

P.S. i have been to the ranger station several times, i should be able to swing by before the clean-up.
