This is the run we had with some friends in a remote area of Idaho. JB80 is driving the gold/brown FJ80, mine is the white FZJ80, my sis-in-law in the "Pink Widow" and we had one more friend in a Dodge p/u. This trip was not long enough.

How far is that from your place? I need to get out. With my knee being screwed up that looks like a pretty good road for me to get out on, plus the scenery looks great!

Eric,
You're lookin' about straight east of Mt. Borah. It can be accessed from around Arco or up North of Mackay. If you went from your place I would expect to camp at least one night. Or you could spend about 20 hours in the car. ;)
If you wanna go lemme know and I'll see what I can do. From my place I think it's about 4 hours, now that I know how to get there! :D

My bro said he had a great time.. (minus the bad o2 sensor). any mining towns up there? any other loops or routes you could have taken to make it longer....

Lots of routes to make it longer. We only quit because i didn't get enough days off and then there was the little thing about not having enough gas to go any further. Next time I will definitely bring extra gas.

I think next time you should lead us on a run up there. I bet you could have a herd of 80s from Boise to Mountain Home trekking down the interstate to meet up with you. How would that place be in Sept.?

That sounds like a good idea. I wanted to be careful the first time 'cause I didn't really know where I was going. ;) Let's check out the dates and see what we can come up with. I am definitely up for it.

count me in for a 2 or 3 day trip for mid to late september..... actually i gotta becareful in september but i think i have one or 2 open weekends..... so lets see we got eric, tooth fairy, myself, maybe my bro........who else has 80's up there.. maybe some utah guys would like to cruise up.

Forgot this pic, it was on the first day crossing the desert on the way to the mountains, we drove up the north side of this thing. It's called Big Southern Butte and can be seen from over a hundred miles away, it's around 2500 ft. Pretty weird considering the desert is almost flat.

Thats awesome.
Pics like those really make me want to get out west for awhile.

The Appalachains are great but nothing compared to that.

tooth fairy- when are you going to take another trip? my wife is from ID and i just finished college up there. I LOVE IT. if you plan a trip in the future would you consider going with another cruiserhead? i think it would be a lot of fun.

gam,
Follow this thread and you might see when we get all the details worked out for when we go into this area again. It looks like the about the third weekend in Sept.

This was a little side trail where I took the pics above of my 80 on a rack and JB80's to the p/side of mine. On the way back down I took this pic looking straight ahead. To try to give some perspective, if you can pick out the little white dot down by the road. That's the Dodge p/u.

Thats freaky !!! Maybe it's the angle , and maybe its the angle .. but that road seems to head almost straight down for a mile ... looks scary as hell ... wasn't it ??

T - I need a drink .. haha

fairy(do you like that name?) all right how's TF,
i think i might be headed back to good ol rexburg to start a job at a place i used to work. that would put me closer to the mts and a fun weekend with you guys. when are you going to pass through G.R. again?

Gam, passing through on the second weekend of aug. Prolly the the 14th.

T, That hill is real steep. Not real scary on the way down, however, on the way up my li' sis in the TJ w/open diffs and 31's got hung up in the ruts and stopped, turned the wheels and tried again, and again, and couldn't get any more forward movement. I'm watching her in the rearview, stopped on the hill in front of her in case she needs to be strapped, and she backs down! Wheels turned at first then she straightens them and continues to roll back about 2-3 car lengths then she slips it back into first and nails it to power through the ruts and I had to get on it to stay out of her way! All this in a standard. Girls got skills. Now she just needs a cruiser. ;)

Butch passed that trail on the main track and as I passed it I got on the radio and told him we needed to go up it, more than anything to see what he'd say. He flipped around and we headed up. The first spot the new aussie locker got a little work was when I was about 2/3s up and was staring at a big old buck antelope and then slipped down into the ruts. At that point my wife told me that If I wanted to look at the wildlife I was going to have to stop first. I have some pictures from this trip that I'll post. They are on my machine at home where I am all dial up, otherwise I'd have them up by now. Pretty amazing country up there.
