getting rid of B engine for Gas?

It appears that there are too many unobtanium parts for the old BJ40 power train. Am thinking I need to do a power train swap to something that I can find parts if need be. Budget is tight so any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not too far away from TrollHole in SC or Green Meadows...

    12v starter for B motor

I’ve lost my starter. Put it on a starter/alternator repair shop and the proprietor has gotten terminally ill. Haven’t been able to recover the starter(as of yet). If I can’t, what options are out there? Hard to enjoy the beast when it just sits there gathering pollen.

    What is this?

I've had to put my starter into a shop for rebuild. This lady, Cindy, has been rebuilding starters and alternators for 30 years. She said, as I walked in with it, "Ah, an old Denso unit." After testing she said that the solenoid need rebuild and seemed confident that athe guts of a newer Denso...

    Starter advice needed

I am pulling the 12V starter and starter relay tomorrow. If bench test shows that either of them has failed what options are there for repair or replacement. This is an early (1975) B engine. Just looking for options other than a swap to a different engine configuration. I sure miss driving...

    Resources and engine swap query

Does anyone know of BJ or FJ series experts in North or South Carolina? With the Costa Rican modifications to the engine compartment (AirCon and unknown mfr power steering) and difficulty with B engine parts acquisition. is it viable or cost effective to swap for a gas motor ?

    She won't start now

All the questions about filters. Got that sorted and Thanks! I now have a slightly bigger issue. First, I have been using the Donkey quite frequently - made to run and not sit around, right. Noticed a couple of weird starting issues. A bit of chattering when going from glow plug warmup to...

The never ending oil filter conundrum.

Here are some pics of the engine compartment. Apologies for the mis-ID of the type. As a new one to these I thought that because it's 3 liter it is a 3B. It is a B motor. The previous owner did put A/C on it as you can see. No heater. Went to local Toyota dealer parts guy who said that the...

Proper 3 oil filters and source?

I've had good advice so far for my sortie into the world of the BJ40. Thanks! If anyone from around the world has a source for proper filters for the 3B motor, I'd be grateful. Thx

    #B oil filters?

It seems that my oil filter is leaking around the top. It's a Fram and I've read that it is easy to overtighten them crushing the gasket. So what and where can I find an appropriate oil filter for replacement and future oil changes? Thanks

    3B is very smoky

It's been awhile since I've been on here and I hope the holidays were good to y'all. I getting used to the Donkey and have relaced the front calipers and stooping have improved immensely. Frozen piston on the ones it came with. Power steering system is still very weird and keeps on their...

Costa Rican BJ40 is now home.

Picked up the BJ40 Saturday. Engine runs great, tranny shifts fine, hubs lock and unlock smoothly, transfer case shifts well, It has brakes modified to discs all 4. Power steering added as well. Issues are brakes need some service as they pull mightily to the right. The steering is a bit...

Noobie getting BJ40 on the 9th.

My wife and I owned a FJ40 back in the 70's. Love at first sight - FJ and each other. being military, we shipped it to Germany for our 3-year tour. Sadly, it had to be traded for a faster more comfortable car when we got it back to the states. Now, we'll be having a '75 BJ40 from Costa Rica to...

    New Member.

Hello all! I am going to pick up a 1975 BJ40 on the 9th. A 1975 FJ40 was the first vehicle that my wife and I owned. Great times with it. Purchase in San Angelo, TX while at some military type training. Explored parts of NM, headed east to MA for more training then shipped her to Germany. #...
