It appears that there are too many unobtanium parts for the old BJ40 power train. Am thinking I need to do a power train swap to something that I can find parts if need be. Budget is tight so any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm not too far away from TrollHole in SC or Green Meadows Automotive in NC.
Thanks

Well it sort of depends on what you want and how much you can find local and do yourself. About 14 years ago I scored a 4speed with transfer case and the advance adapter bell housing. I was going to build a 283 corvette motor to swap in. Then I got sick. The 283 was stolen. So I'm working on the I6, it will last me as long as there is gas to buy. Figure what you want and post in the classified and like your local Craig's list etc. and see what turns up.

I put a R2.8 in my FJ40 with the H55F and split transfer case.

Budget is tight makes any sort of swap a real pain.

Is it not running now? Or are you planning for the future?

Easiest swap would be getting a 3B diesel. You can usually find them cheapish and they “bolt in”. You can find Most parts and even aftermarket heads if need be.

Now if this is something you just want a different engine, try to source a beat/rot fj40 and get the whole drivetrain and build from that.

lots of stuff needed to go from B to an F
engine, motor mounts, radiator, transmission, wiring, clutch, etc

is the B 12V?
