Need Help - Lower Steering Column Bushing (1 Viewer)

[1979 FJ40ish]

I purchased this lower steering column bushing for my 79 FJ40 but I'm uncertain about how to install it. The steering column didn't have one when I removed it for restoration. I couldn't find anything in my manuals about how to install it nor could I find any pictures online.

Should the larger or smaller end be visible in the engine compartment?

Should the inside of the bushing be lubricated? Seems strange to just have a dry foam bushing rub against the steering column as it turns.

You push it into the column. Not the greatest bushing but it works. I put a touch of grease on the steering column.
