Hi.

I'm in the market for a LC. I am curious about what folks think of an FJ60 with a low miles 5.0L TBI swapped into it. The owner is saying it gets 28 mpg, but I'm suspicious. It sounds to good to be true. Any thoughts?

Here is the description.

"Offered for sale first time is our family FJ60. One of the cleanest I have ever seen. Some features include tasteful upgrades to a completely rebuilt fuel injected 5.0L TBI engine, a brand new direct from Toyota H55 5SP manual transmission and new transfer case 2016. Very low hours since install. While at it we added a brand new starter, and 100 amp alternator. Upgraded front HD Toyota 4Runner Calipers w/new rotors, flex lines and brakes all round, 4 new BF Goodrich TKO2 33's AT tires 2017, new stock exhaust front to back, Old Man Emu lift w/anti inversion shackles, 4 Old Man Emu shocks, center consul lockable Tough Box, full length roof rack system with a solar panel on top. everything works perfectly as it should, runs and drives great. Super clean frame is original and has no rust anywhere on it. Interior is all factory original in perfect minty condition. Original bumpers clean chrome. Overland Series roof rack offers up a roll out awning with rack mounted solar panel. New factory Toyota radiator."

Thanks for your time.

Sounds really great but also sounds like salesman talk.. pics will tell a lot.

It’s a good combo, especially with a manual trans. It’s probably a dated conversion by most folks standards, but a 305 is a solid engine that (if looked after) will give you years of service.

TBI is a solid setup (not the greatest power) , I would prefer a 5.7 in that lane over a 5.0. Hard for me to see a V8 swap getting at best very low 20's for mpg.

28 is absurd in an LC. Just absurd. Doesn't mean it's not a good truck, but 28 is stupid.

The diesels don’t even get 28. Maybe the seller has a Speedo error and thinks is getting 28 but no. Not happening.

My thoughts are .....if you are looking for a v8 swapped rig buy this one

For Sale - California - 1985 FJ60, H55, Vortec V8, ARB, Recaro

No affiliation I just know it's a good set up because I once had an almost identical truck. It comes with the reassurance of one of the best cruiser mechanics in North America. It would be a great way to start your 60 adventure. Just my .02 cents
