First Fitting, it sits in there pretty tight. A little metal massaging and all will be well.

Great job, and attention to detail.

I am gathering the parts to do the same to my FJ62. Any advantage to using the FJ62 transfer case as opposed to the FJZ80 one? I have both, and was leaning toward the FJZ80.

Thanks
Mark

Ignore my question.. the FJ62 makes more sense from a controls perspective.. I may still see if I can figure out how to go AWD...

Back on the 60/80. The inner fenders require some trimming to clear the shock towers and steering box. Custom rubber skirts similar to the stock models on 60/62s will fill the gaps between fenders and the frame.

The AC compressor had less than comfortable clearance and the hoses would never work. 4.5" dia. 1/4" wall tubing for both pieces.

I pulled the interior out of it, looking for rust. Only found four spots in the usual spots, where the sheet metal is doubled up and moisture hangs out between the two layers.............rust.

Zero rust in the floor pans other than pictured!

Sweet project. How much length did you take out of the frame?

4.75" if i remember corectly. The difference between the 80 WB and the 60 WB

Great progress Stan. Awesome work as usual.

Thanks much Onur, I am really liking this build a lot. I am a lucky guy to get to do something I enjoy for a living. I do, however, still consider rust highly objectionable!

Plated the frame behind the steering box with 1/4" . This is somewhat common for 80s running big rubber off road, sometimes forming cracks in this area of the frame.
In this case it also pushes the steering box out and provides more clearance for PS pump pulley

Yeah you will never see that shot on the average Instagram page..

I was told I need to get on Instagram, only old folks use Facebook. Most of my customers are older folks, older than the average instagramer at least. :)
