They are glued in with butyl, easy enough to get out, lever between the pinch weld and the frame, gently working around it, awful awful stuff to clean up however, I stuck it back in with 227 sikaflex
Finally got around to doing one side, do the other tomorrow, had to wait for some decent weather to paint the frames, original seals were weathered away to dust
We are just over a week from leaving for Bonneville. I will be honest converting the 45 from Desert to Salt has been a challenge. Today I should have the complete drive train finished. We still need to add secondary throttle spring and install...
Pretty sure this one came off my truck. Plating is kinda tricky, on the threads it looks a little more gold, but up under the bolt head it looks predominantly silver. But if it has gold coloring it has to be cad/chromium plated.
The #3 Phillips seems to be a pretty good match, even though the #2 is only so-so. I went through a string of Craftsman #3s back in the day when I was actively dismantling. They had SUCH a good bite that I would sometimes have to put the screws...
Hand impact screwdriver should do it. They require a little finesse to work properly if you're not used to using them. I always try both directions to get it broken loose. Making sure the bit is the proper size and I always kind of preload the...
Absolutely agree with 65swb45.
To me drilling and tapping is an absolute last resort. It sounds easy, but in practice drilling through the center of the bolt and maintaining the drill bit's alignment with the bolt is really difficult. It can...
Look up oldmatesawyer on Instagram. Man is an artist with metal and busting out FJ45 beds in his shop, in addition to every other panel imaginable.

Yes, it's pretty simple and works well. I used a 15 ton press and made dies out of 2 x 1/4inch flat. If this is what you're wanting to do I'll see if I can post pics of the dies. Pretty sure I used 18ga, 1.2mm.
@Unimogguy I may have one in much better condition. A denso unit. I'll go look through the boxes and get back to you. I swear there was another on hand.
You are 4.5 hours each way from Annapolis.
It will take you less time to drive down and knock on his door then drive home than it will to get an answer digitally.
Pack up Dwight Schrute and roll out
Mark,
As I was mentioned, I do have thousands of original-era take-off bolts that have been cleaned, sorted, and Mil-spec replated in various finishes-- various numbered styles and strengths, sizes, pitches, and lengths. Again, already removed...
Thank you and everyone for supporting the work! I love these old cruisers and want to see them still being used or at least have the option to keep being used. :)
That is consistent with my theory that there was a wholesale change in 9/66, concurrent with the introduction of the dashpad and the two speed wiper motor.
@rainingagain pics from six months earlier are consistent with @OGBeno point about how...
I can help on this research project in a few days, enjoying the outdoors right now.
Yes, let’s dig in to when Toyota stopped using Brass body and misc nuts and bolts. John
Thank you! THIS is what I had in mind. Those 4s that are still floating off center in May of ‘66 throws my 12/63 theory out the window!😛
I’m hoping a few collectors that are on here can share pics and production dates like that, especially in...
Hey all,
Just thought I would give the early cruiser owner's a heads up that we have reproduced the gasket kit for the oil filter canister. Now that the OEM oil filters are gone, this gasket is also NLA. Hope this is helpful to some! :)...
