After many months of looking for a clean rig I found what was very nearly my dream 80 series on cars and bids; a 10/1996 A/T HDJ81 with white exterior, grey cloth interior, with the 1HD FT. I told my wife it was meant to be since the auction...
The FSM answer is replace the lower bar and weatherstrip. I tried bending the track to clamp the glass tighter, cleaning the weather strip and several other things which resulted in foul language. A new lower bar and weatherstrip solved the...
The positive battery post originally came with a red rubber protective cover to help prevent it from making contact with metal ie: in an accident or from tools laid across the top touching both posts. As already mentioned above the positive...
Agree with above, try to find rust-free replacements (entire sections or cuts) for all those areas.
This autobody guy has some good videos, here's one...
I guess man, if you didn’t pay much for it and want to learn.
Don’t start with flux core though, just spend the money on a tank and setup your machine in gas. Thank me later.
Cheers
Just sell it and buy a rust free one. That’s a parts truck and a waste of time when you can buy rust free 80’s still for decent $$$.
My opinion.
Cheers
Not a weekend thing, but I just got done with the quads install. Thanks @cruisermatt !
*edit- I just had 'em out to aim them and drive around and holy crap, these things are so much better than the USDM lights. If you can swing the coin...
If there's a section on removing the transfer from the transmission in the 80 series manuals, I can't find it. The transmission removal and installation section doesn't mention the transfer at all, and the transfer section assumes the transfer...
Still same code I mention in post #4, error code 52 which links to front knock sensor as the easiest; after that starts getting harder to chase as it could be loose ground, loose connection of wire, faulty wire, or ultimately ECU fault.
Appreciate that. My son picked those out. Trying to use the site but the search and sort functions aren’t the easiest to use. Like most things in life will get easier with practice/use.
Now that the kids are 20+ the goal is to use the 96 to get...
This applies to the FZJ80 and LX450 models with the 1FZFE engine.
The small non-adjustable/fixed idler pulley located between the alternator and the crank pulley is flat as designed, there are no V grooves.
It's been discussed on the forum that...
I think you need to go back to Post #2 and as @Rusty Marlin suggests, pull the codes. Everything else is guesswork and that s*** gets expensive real quick.
Are you running the correct battery? Group 27F is the correct style and has the positive on the back left side. If someone used a Group 27 it would be opposite and positive would be in the front left (I think the early FJ80's were this way).
One more pic from me.
It has been a pleasure to build this one. We really enjoy doing this, working with the customer to deliver what they/you want. It is everything you can imagine; fun, challenging, difficult, enjoyable and best of all...
Finally found the time and better temperatures to do the knock sensor swap in the garage.
I ordered a 27mm deep socket to ensure I would have something able to hold a grip on it, as opposed to some adjustable wrench, and deep enough to not damage...
If you get onto trouble post here, there are plenty of good folks that will usually help out. Travel on the weekend and you will have a better chance at getting some help. Some one can bring you a fusable link or alternator.
Enjoy the adventure
