Toyota makes an upgrade kit for this, forget the part number. Comes with bulbs, relays, fuses and harness. Plug and play. Mount relays and fuses somewhere.

Find and FSM and go through the process of checking the kickdown cable adjustment. If this is way off the truck will run horribly. Hard to diagnose from afar but that would be the first thing I would check.
