Install a good shift kit in the 4L65e and you'd be fine to tow a small trailer. But it's completely up to you!

The 4l80 also has a 2.48:1 first gear whereas the 4l60/65e has a 3.06:1 first. The difference is certainly noticeable, especially when offroad crawling situations. The 80 is strong, but a 60/65 can be made just as strong with better gearing and better power transfer efficiency.
A shift kit and a little bit of trans reprogramming with HP tuners will put a smile on anyone's face. Pull out torque management, up the shift pressures a little and increase the shift point speed by a few miles per hour = happy driving.

Subscribed. Can't wait for mtkreitz to take me for a spin in it 
^^ I will have to keep that in mind for if/when my stone stock 4l60e that had 90k miles on it when I did the swap blows its guts. So far (knock on wood) I have not had a single issue and it probably has about 120k miles on it now. The only thing I did to the trans before installing it was modify the output shaft to work with the adapter and put new fluid in it.
Guess we will see!

Drivetrain wise the tow ratings would be whatever gm 3/4 ton trucks are. Then you have to factor in the rating of the rig itself. Would it pull 8k lbs probably would your coils flatten, more than likely

I agree, the coils limit the towing ability at higher weights. CAnt beat leaf springs for towing - conversely, you cant beat coils for good ride and articulation.

I want to be able to tow a wakeboard boat. I'm guessing 6k.
i think an 80 with a v8 swap would tow just fine, but it's the stopping that concerns me. these trucks do not have great brakes. they are pretty much maxed out just trying to stop the truck itself.

Adapter is on the transmission and ready for the tcase. 1FZ and auto is coming out tomorrow of the Lexus. 6.0L and transmission to follow.
