Yes and no, the 80 a343f uses a TV cable for line pressure, and the newer a343f used with the 2UZ controls pressure electronically via the ECU and has an additional sensor. It is possible to retrofit, just more work. You would also need to swap valve bodies from a donor tundra/Sequoia etc. It's just a lot easier to use the 100 trans the way it is, if you can find one. Check This thread for some more info on using the 80 trans.
ah yup, that's gonna be way more of a PITA. I'll try to find one with the transmission for sure. thank you!

Watching this and hoping you all the best so I can ask questions later. My 92 FJ80 had the same problem with the radiator lol. All stock 3fe at 248k and I have been trying to decide on either rebuilding the motor or swapping to a 2uz. A lot cheaper than an LS from what I can see and keeps it all Japanese.

I’m sorta 60/40 on tying the sliders to the body, but clearly you get using fish plates & such - more power to you.

I’ve just never been a fan of a timing belt motor & deletion of a timing chain one.

To each their own & respect as how you use your 80, if a 2UZ is your thing, cool 😎

Great to see different approaches even if it’s not what some here would do - best of luck!

If a timing belt change scares you, this is the wrong thread for you... 😉

I also used to follow that same logic about timing chains > timing belt... but most of the newer timing chain engines now require some maintenance (tensioners/idlers) or just new chains.

Hard to keep that logic...

Very much agreed. The timing belt job wasn't even that hard all things considered, and you know everything is refreshed to keep cruising along.

I'm still super early stages on this. I'm trying to source a vehicle at the auction. Once that happens, I'll break off into my own build thread.

Well, sometimes things don't go as planned. Haven't touched the 80 in weeks due to working on other projects. Posted the 1FZ for sale, and a guy I know asked about the 80... After some reflection I decided I was willing to part with it. It's just been a huge time and money pit, keeping me from working on the projects I actually want to work on (mainly my 40). It was never meant to be such a time consuming toy. But, I should have known better.

He will be rebuilding the 1FZ, so I will be posting the 2UZ and Slee belly pan for sale. PM me if interested and take up the torch...

Sorry to disappoint for those following. At the very least this thread has documented my misadventures with the ol girl in the time that I owned her. Happy to help with swap related questions/tech, I have spent hours and hours reading up on it.

Hate to see it stall, but good on you for making the decision to keep it Toyota.
