Keep in mind that there is sideway movement on the axle.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

Got that covered I think. Checked it all through the travel with a tire in place. Looks good so far.

The springs will allow some sideways movement on the axle.

You could flip the shocks for more clearance near your steering arms. Some shocks can be flipped & others are not valve correctly for that.

Duly noted. I'm not seeing that as a problem either so far.........

On another note, what in the world is your avatar pic waiting for time?
I've tried and tried but can't recognize just what that is. :)

I've looked at that. And allegedly the Ranchos can operate in either orientation. We'll see, but it's probably a wash between avoiding the pitman arm or avoiding the top of the steering box on this side. Keeping the shock rod up is preferred to keep it farther from harm. I figure the pitman arm encroachment will be handled with the knuckle stop adjustment. The 35 x 12.50's get close to the springs at the same time anyhow.

Found some more garage time this weekend. Finally, a complete shock hoop! After many trial and error attempts to get just the right spot for the shock all through the suspension travel, I think I got it. Now the other side should be easy breezy.

X2 nice work it is looking real good. I like the front hoops; got a plan for the rears? I have been looking for better options than the /\ configuration

Thanks for the comments. I'm needing a little encouragement after the time it's taken to get past this power steering and drivers side shock mount. Lot's of this :hmm::bang::hmm::bang: Wouldn't be this far without the help of my good neighbor the fab guy loaning some key tools.

My rear shocks are pretty much mounted the same as stock. Except I added a tab to mount move the lower mount when I did the rear SOA. Been working okay like that for a long time.

Passenger side front hoop 90% done in one day! Man it goes a lot faster when you know what the parts are supposed to look like before hand.

So I think I've passed the fab hurdle of Scout power steering/SOA/Hi steer/shock relocate. Minus some final welding and painting once some things are out of the way. Next stop is to revisit the radiator. I need to cut some stock brackets off yet. The plasma cutter was unavailable this weekend so I shifted back to the putting the Orion together and started tearing down the organ donor.

Your build is coming along nicely, the hoops look great

Thanks! I'm happy with the results. I hope they work out ;)
I'm pretty sure that I'll add a bar between the tops of the hoops once the radiator is re situated. They are very stiff, but can still flex them with my puny human input.

It's more of an "unbuild-rebuild" than a real build up. Some of these restos and ressurections on this site are way beyond my stamina level.

And moneypit, You got some stamina to wade through a 12 page and growing thread.

Looks great Cliff! Is it going to be ready for the Arizona wheeling season? Looks like you're getting close!

Probably not this season, my list is still pretty long. Xfer case, radiator, front axle rebuild with some longs, new front drive shaft, bump stops, front bumper, seats tied to cage, rear storage, new tunes, TBI and reseal on the engine............ Maybe by spring, who knows? Trouble is, AZ wheelin' season is also dune buggy season. The other addiction that sucked attention and cash from the Cruiser for a few years. The buggy will soon be needing a little time as well, to prep for the 1st outing. Hopefully it will keep it's hands out of the piggy bank this year. Can't complain about sand toys though. They have been a great father/son bonding tool.

I hope to get back to Moab with it as soon as possible. Still haven't made a Cruise Moab yet. Rubithon is on the bucket list too.

Which nose? In the picture I have on the right, the nose cone from the early "3spd" case I was running. On the left is one from an unknown year bone yard piece I got many years ago when I needed a shift housing.

The left looks to be improved with strengthening ribs from a later model. Probably "4spd".

Interchangeable parts? I'm going to clean it up and use it unless I hear otherwise.

The worst part about rebuilding old junk is all the time you have to spend on clean up. :frown:

Found a real nice bearing on the front output shaft of my junkyard nose cone.

A little oven cleaner, parts washer and sand blast treatment has this stuff ready.
