Got the springs on. Both shackles are folded under though and I can't jack it up high enough to straighten.

Any ideas? Hi-lift? Screwed?

Little concerned about the frame tie in w/ also mounting it to the body like stock in order to allow the body to roll (ie lean) a bit. Will probably come up w/ something in between. There are more than a few folks in this area that can probably do it for you. In the club itself Will M does some welding and Landry has a machine... but no gas (welding gas that is :D)

Look at Poly Performance.com - Fox Shocks, Donahoe Racing, Beard, CTM, Currie Enterprises, Edelbrock, total Chaos, Ramsey winch, Walker Evans, Wilwood, Mastercraft, and more... they offer a cool frame tie-in set up. Might be just what you are looking for to allow the body a little flex. The have some cool on board air set-ups too. I am going to get one of the viair set-ups.

has anyone thought about putting a full time lock like a spool or something like that up front where it would not affect onroad performance?

:hmm: Will try to ride by if you think you need. Inverted again :confused:
 
if the springs are inverted towards the axle it would stand to reason the springs are now entirely to short.

and they will stay inverted or constantly want to to do so especially when you apply torque to the rear axle during driving.

i was kinda wondering why they would shorten the springs in the first place.

i thought when we put on the suspension that the springs could stand to be lengthened.

i guess larry will be able to determine better when he goes by.

let us know the verdict.

i know i have been very interested in the next step in the proto suspension saga.

last time we picked the truck up by the frame to unload the spring by letting the axle hang.
 
I pulled each spring off in the order that Larry said and went in the reverse to put them back on. I had to loosen the shackle some to get the front end in for the pin to go through. It all seemed lined up right, the shackle leaning just a little to the front. When I tried to put the u-bolts on though, the way I compressed the springs to bolt them down, it folded it up to the front (opposite of what that rear driver had been doing). Both folded up like that when I was done. The truck's frame never moved. In fact, I had the jack stands on blocks just to get it high enough for me to work. Then I used the floor jack to move the axle up and down as needed and a bottle jack to work the springs into place. I tried to lift the truck once it was all on but I can't jack it up enough to see if they'll fall.

Neither shackle bolt is super tight though. I think Dan might be right that it's too short now. It seems like it should work though.

I'll call later about the hi-lift. If it doesn't work, I'll be taking them off tomorrow and putting the old ones back on.
 
to picture your problem.......

is the shackle is now folded towards the front of the truck or rear?

i can only imagine with the shortened springs it went forward towards the front of the truck.

that is the direction it went when we first did the suspension.

it generally would be next to impossible for it too invert the other way.

that sucks marty.

i really was hopin' i was this would be a solution rather than another issue. for the 62 and the proto suspension.

wish i was on the hwy 92 LC corridor i would come by.

I'm :confused: when you say "to the front". Regardless of whether or not you are talking about the rear springs or the front ones, if you say "towards the axle" or "away from the axle", it would clarify things.

Too me, if you are talking "to the front" and FRONT SPRINGS, it sounds OPPOSITE if inversion towards the axle, and to me, sounds like the springs are too long.

However, "to the front" in the rear would imply toward the axle and too short.

Just IMHO and $.02
 
Hubs

Got into some mud Friday night, without the top on (not recommended), and found out that front tires want look in. Everything spins drive shaft, cv shafts, but not the tire. Can I rebuild the hubs, replace them, or is there something else causing this?
 
Sorry Mike - I replaced the rear springs. The shackles are now both folded forward towards the axle all the way to the frame. When we first did the spring install, the rear driver spring folded back away from the axle. I think that spring was either bent wrong or too long. The rear driver had an almost vertical shackle angle. Tom sent me replacements saying he thought they needed to be shortened.
 
i remember unbinding the shackle and if i recall correctly it was inverted in towards the axle as well.

it would be almost impossible to get the shackle to bind out away from the axle.

it is possible but not likely.

that is why anti inversion shackles are pretty much a oneway use.

basically the direction you are experiencing.

your spring needed to be lenthened.

i will say this i still have those longer anti inversion shackles that i took off my truck you can make use of.

put the other set of springs on with these shackles and your problem will be solved for the time being.

at least untill tom figures out what to do.

I am not sure how that would work, seems like it would tear up Birfields whenever you try to turn.

Sounds to mee like your hubs... Never tried rebuilding a set. But I have heard you want to go back with the OEM stuff. the Warn Hubs stink for out trucks. You do have the manual locking hubs right, not the auto lockers?
