UPDATE: If you follow these turns, you may get to Rock Bowl Beach without issue. We will monitor 146.400. There is limited/no cell phone at the beach.

This was once a BEACH. Sand is at the beach.

  • 1 - Start at US 550 & CR 11 (35.84460, -106.96637)
  • 2 - Head to the end of the semi-improved road (NM - CR 11 to BLM Dirt (35.85991, -106.95545))
  • 3 - Cross the wash at this spot. You are headed towards RBB (35.85750, -106.93764)
  • 4 - find your way to this waypoint and turn east/right into the Rock Bowl Beach Campsite (35.86066, -106.93597)
  • Enjoy!

Original Post with Update

Fellow HDC members,

Lets have another Cowboy / Cowgirl breakfast in the bush Saturday September 18th. This is the 3rd Saturday in September so this event will take the place of our normal breakfast meeting.

We have decided to do this breakfast at a really nice camp spot just south of Cuba off of US 550. Jeff Boggs and I found this spot a year or so ago and have returned several times. This spot (35.86163, -106.93470) is about a 1 - 1.25 hour drive from NM-528 and US-550. 95% of the drive is paved and the last few miles are unimproved dirt road. I will update this introduction with more details on how to find the spot.

Cars can make this one, but only camping trailers with major clearance, like Ali's Kimber style trailer or Frank's Smitty style, can make the one aggressive "dip" that goes through a wash. I will be camping out of my truck Friday and Saturday nights.

Tips on finding the location: Coming soon

UPDATE 9/9/2021: Jeff has volunteered to lead a moderate trail run on Saturday after breakfast. We will depart from camp and follow various trails that have some moderate articulation and some tight clearance requirements, if memory serves me correctly. Stock vehicles may have some difficulty with a few spots, so be warned.

Jeff has also offered to lead an easier loop in the area near camp on Sunday based on interest Sunday morning. CLICK HERE TO GO TO THE TRAIL RUN THREAD for details. Thanks Jeff!

Breakfast
Coordinates: 35.86163, -106.93470
Breakfast Time: 0900 - 1030
Date: Saturday September 18th
HAM: 146.400

Optional Camp-out
Date: Friday September 17th and Saturday Sep 18th evenings

Like the prior years, you are welcome to join some of us heading out Friday the 17th after work and camp out. Others are welcome to join us for breakfast in the morning on Saturday. This is a family friendly event - dogs, pets and kids are all welcome!

Frank and I will be making our usual stuff. We will also have coffee and fixings - all no charge. You are welcome to bring your own breakfast, with the CV thing still amongst us. Any donations you wish to make will go into the club coffers to be used for our xmas party or donations to off road organizations.

I will keep a tally below of those that confirm or are tentative. This will help me plan on the amount of food to purchase.

I plan to camp Friday night and Sat night. Sounds great.

I'm hoping to camp Fri night as well and do the sat run. Thanks for putting this together!

I'm sure I drove through here with someone from this club 2 years ago on a NM 4Wheelers group run.
Might have been Jeff? I don't totally remember, but I'm pretty sure.
I'm 90% sure I'll be there for the camping.

If people are staying for Sat night, I might just give out one of my favorite spots in that area, depending on how many people are there.

I am going to try and meet up with everyone Saturday night. Looking forward to it!!

Well Jeff, I think you made a good call by suggesting we pull this breakfast event, which is normally in Oct, forward into September. It looks like we are going to have very agreeable weather.

I'll be there for sure for the breakfast and wheeling on Saturday.
I'll bring a friend who just got a Tacoma as well.
Glad you will be there. Some of your routes in this area could add to our ride on Sat. See you Sat morning.

I'll be there with Quantumkiwi and sounds like we might camp friday night. Looking forward to it!

My 15.5 year old daughter is now driving her own 3rd gen, as of this week. So, she'll be checking out your ride, I'm sure!

Hey Justin, if you’re serious about going up on Saturday I would consider coming up if you were willing to caravan with me to the campsite on Saturday when you go. I’m afraid I will get lost trying to find the place on my own. If you think you can handle me tagging along text me at 5 0 5 235 0274. Thanks, Stephen

Well done club HDC!!

This year is going to be a "full-on" at the Rock Bowl Beach (RBB). I believe this will be a fun and safe time.

I will update the header thread soon. There is a spiritual presence at at the RBB. I trust you will feel it should you join.

Please be extra safe with the heighten virus outbreak. Whether you are vaxed or not, please be as respectful to others as possible. I thank you for that. I wish only all have fun and well being.

See ya this weekend!

Poupon!
