If running a flatbed/Ute Tray, I like how they do the back wall here:

Yep, some episodes of 4wd action definitely gave me some ideas/inspiration on this project!

Reminded me of these:

Normally I yell out in anguish, “Buy a damn Tundra!” But at this point I’ll say, “Good luck, mate!”
Yep, I was real borderline on doing that, If I could have gotten $6k for the 100, I probably would have went that route. But no takers on Craigslist.

Interesting to stumble in here, I just came across a ute conversion in Japan. Looking forward to yours as it progresses.

Following with interest.
@TRAIL TAILOR this is right up your alley!

Getting a little more dedicated on what location to put the chop, I finally decided it would be best to line it up with the part of the floor that rises up to under the second row seats. Some careful measurements and chalk line seemed to do a pretty good job of locating my cut line for the angle grinder.

The roof cut ended up working out exactly in line with the sunroof reinforcement for me.

Filling in the hole left in the roof was pretty easy using the back 1/2 of the chopped section. The curve down on the rear hatch area almost lined up with the front roof to windshield curve. So I just took a section out and gave it test fit, shaped it a little bit and used some panel adhesive to hold it on. Maybe I will regret not welding it. But there was a lot of faying surface for the glue to work with so I am not to worried about it.

When I layed it down there was a little gap in the front center of it because the curve didn't perfectly match up. If I was more aware of this possibly happening I would have probably sliced the piece in a few spots on the leading edge so it layed down better. Oh well I should be able to hide it.

A look at the underside of the sunroof hole repair.

Also, I just had to pull it out of the shop for a quick look from a distance, to help picture what direction I want to continue the project.

At this point I was leaning towards removing the back existing body section and just making a separate flat bed after chopping the body down the middle.

Of note, with all the seats, glass, metal etc removed out of the back end, it caused the rear to lift about 6 inches. I would guess 600-700 lbs was probably removed.

Man, I can't wait to see how this turns out.

I'd kind of love to do this, and now that my LX has a rebuilt title anyway.......but my wife would literally kill me

I bought my wife a GX460 to replace the 100 for her vehicle and she is still complaining about me ruining "her" landcruiser!

Nice. I actually showed her some pictures and she thought it was pretty cool. Too bad I don't have half the skills necessary to do something like this haha. I do own a grinder and a welder though, you gotta learn some how. 90% of what I do know was learned from ****ing something up.

Nice work so far
