Club record for lowest score so far was me with a 26, so that’s the mark to beat. It was good enough to pass with no margin for error. As Stump would say, “what do you call the last in the class to graduate the Naval Academy?” You call him Sir! I could attend and try for the next level Ham test, but I think I’ll retire batting 1000.
Your not going to attempt to take the next step? I would love to see you taking it with your mouth agape trying to figure it out.

OK, future hams. We are less than 2 weeks away from the class and test. Time to start cramming. (That was incentive not nagging)
Please get your FRN and print the test questions. See first post for links.

Hint: Read all of the questions and all of the possible answers to get the gist of the question. Then, start over and reread the question and just the correct answer (letter in parenthesis) so your brain can remember the connection. Maybe do this a couple of times. Some of the questions are good some are not the best. Usually the confusing/ambiguous questions don't appear on the test. During the class we will fill in the gaps and make things easier to understand. The test is really not that difficult. Again, ten year old kids have passed the test.

If you are not a CLCC club member, please bring a check for $15 made out to ARRL to cover the cost of processing the application with the FCC. Cash works too, checks preferred. The club is picking up the tab for members.

Currently, we have over 30 people planning to attend.

Let me know if you have any questions.
See you on the 29th.

Ed thanks so much for putting this on! I’m looking forward to seeing everyone and being able to Legally talk on my $18.99 beofung!
You will have to pass the test first. Ain't looking too god for you man. You better brush on that Morse code skill.

If you want to SOTT (Study On The Toilet) I'd recommending getting a phone app that does nothing but drill the question pool. This is the one that I used (Ham Test Prep - Apps on Google Play).

And if you are going to take the Technician test then you might as well take the General at the same sitting (no additional cost). The test questions are very similar (in some cases identical). Just make sure to tell Ed that you are planning on taking both so we have both tests on hand.

One recommendation I have on passing, other than studying or staying awake during class is beware of Mitch proctoring the exam. He is a ball buster. I was sitting next to Bart and was trying to cheat off his test, but Mitch was watching me like a hawk. I think it’s part of that eastern bloc upbringing he has to not let anything slide. I luckily swiped a few correct answers off of Barts test which may have made the difference. I’d say sit next to Fireball you can. He is likely a sure thing to have the right answers.

Jeff, do you even remember your callsign?

At the meeting last night a request to have another Ham (Amateur Radio) class and test was discussed. So let's do it.

Attendance - If you are interested, please post so we know how many test packages to order.

Date: Saturday 2/29/2020 Let's leap into this

Location: Kings Park Library. 9000 Burke Lake Rd. Burke, VA, 22015-1683 (about a mile west of Kilroy's)

Time: 10:00 - 4:00

Lunch: Lunch will be provided by the club.

What to bring:
- A printed copy of all of the possible test questions. See homework below
- A government issued ID (drivers license)
- Social Security Number or an FRN (FCC Registration Number) issued by the FCC.
- -The FRN is preferred so you don't have to disclose your SSN to everyone in the license process.
- - You can get info regarding the FRN here: Getting an FCC Registration Number (FRN) in the Universal Licensing System (ULS)
- - Apply for the FRN here: FCC Registration System
- - If you want to upgrade and take the General or Extra test and already have a Technician license you have an FRN. Find it here: SEARCH - Find Licenses, Applications & Ownership Information

Homework - Ten year old kids (and Jeff) have passed the test. It looks intimidating but once you get into it, it is not that hard. In the past we have had a 100% pass rate. The test has 35 questions. Every possible test question with answer (letter in parenthesis) is available here http://www.arrl.org/files/file/VEs/2018-2022 Tech Class Pool Final with errata.pdf
If anyone has access to a high speed printer, please bring some extra copies for those who forget to bring their copy to the class.

Grad School - The class and test will be for the Technician class license. If you would like to take the General or Extra class test, let me know so we can order those test packages, as well. The General & Extra licenses get you "talk around the world" privileges.

Info - Any thing you would like to know about ham radio is available from the ARRL website here: Home

Questions - If you have any questions and/or suggestions, please let me know.

Ed
