So I purchased a 2001 lx470 about a month or so ago and I’m overhauling a lot of little things to get it how I want (I’ve been eyeing these for awhile). Mechanically the truck is great with 165k miles, so she’s not even broken in yet. The interior, for its age, is moderate but I want it badass and once I’m done I’ll post a longer thread detailing everything I’ve done.
I was hoping to get some feedback from some others that have a lx470/landcruiser in regards to the wood trim. Don’t get me wrong, I am actually an avid woodworker and I like the idea of real wood trim, but Lexus stain color was awful-every time I drove, I had flashbacks of my childhood and the orange Golden oak cabinets of yesterday’s kitchens.
Anyway, this is my solution and please let me know what you think.
I sanded trim lightly with 220 grit then used 00 steel wool. After cleaning it all, I used rustoleum clear matte enamel spray to give a more natural walnut look and less like furniture from my grandmas house (I included 1 picture of the before for reference).
If anyone has in comments/tips/ideas I’m always interested to learn from others experience.
Thanks!
