I have had the worst time trying to source a new key blank that is the same one that land cruisers originally shipped with without having to buy a new ignition cylinder or whole new lock set. Ive already got a new metal master key and metal valet key, but the one with a rubber head seems impossible. It looks like this:

I've gotten really close, as the smaller toyotas of the time had the same style key but instead of the left side of the key blade being shaved down, the right side is shaved down and that wont work. So does anyone have a part number or can anyone get it for me?

Shoot... didn’t know these were so rare. I’ve got two originals with patina. Will hoard if someone’s got them! They look classic cool.

I only have one original remote though. Any leads on these as well would be sweet.

Okay, let me educate you. According to my 92 owners manual, these are the three keys our trucks came with. Two master keys and a valet key. One of the master keys had a rubber like head, and the other one was full metal. The spare key was like the metal master key but a different design.

Here is why that other ssimilar Toyota key from the 90s I found on Ebay wont work.

So @MrMikeyG, that key that you linked will indeed work with the land cruiser, but it's not a key that the land cruiser originally came with, I think the 4Runner had that key.

I just bought one of those non-OG as a spare. At least it's OEM and looks classic.

I also have original key envy. My first 80 had the original smaller key and it was perfect in the pocket. The new Toyota rubber key is too bulky. Anyone have the part number of the full metal key (above middle)?

On eBay, people are selling new 80 series ignition cylinders with those rubber keys, and one guy from the UAE is selling a whole lock kit with all exterior locks, a glovebox lock, as well as the ignition cylinder with those rubber keys for $280. So if you want to get new keys and locks for your truck, theres that. I might look into the route of just getting a new cylinder with that key. I'll have different keys for the exterior and glovebox lock, but that doesn't bother me.

Do you guys think that if I changed the locks on my car, there would be any future problems? I dont plan to sell this truck any time soon but I'm just thinking.

A while back now I bought a full new genuine lock set for my barn-door 80 which includes I think four or five keys (one being an 'emergency' spare not a full key). I got fed up with not having a spare key so figured that replacing all the locks with new while available is a smart move. Cost was about A$500 to buy the full set.
