Recently finished daily driver restoration. Just returned from Oklahoma on about a 400 mile trip without a hiccup. I tried to use all OEM Toyota parts by using vintage part numbers. Some of the things I couldn't find OEM I used CCOT and Cruiser Corps. Original F engine runs smooth and strong. 3 speed column shifts well without grinding. Drum brakes work well and you don't have to use two feet to stop. 4x4 works perfect hi and low range. All electrical has been redone and it has a new fuse block and all lighting is new. Upgraded suspension using new stock bushings, stock springs, HFS shackles, bilstein 5100s, and HFS steering dampener. 5 freshly balanced and aligned bfg 31x10.50s on stock wheels with clips. I've had some decent interest on Craigslist and wanted to post up here because I'd really prefer this truck go to someone who is going to respect her. I'm already torn about selling and there are too many folks wanting to treat her like a jeep. Is it wrong that I feel like I want to qualify the buyers like they are trying to date my daughter? LOL

I bought this as a restoration project, but 2 kids and life has kind of held things up. I would love see it go to somebody who will love it.
First, the bad:
--It has some light rust, and the rocker panels each have a spot that has rusted through (you can see the spots in the pictures).
--There are about 4 quarter sized holes in the rear where the previous owner literally ripped the back seat out, but it would be an easy fix.
--needs a wiper motor and blades.
--Driver's side fender has a couple dents
Now for the good:
--Engine runs great!
--Transmission and 4wd both work well and shift smoothly.
--Has a 2year old besttop bikini top
--also have a 1/2 top
--Have both hard doors (a little rust at the bottom, but not bad)...
Hi, I am looking for a 40 project with no rust but doesn't necessarily have to run. I can work on the whole mechanics but body work isn't really a possibility. Looking to stay under $6000 for the vehicle and really would like it on the east coast or more towards PA but well not sure if that's possible.

We have decided to sell my 1968 FJ40. This 40 was bought about 6 yrs ago and was pretty much rust free when I started. It has gone through a couple phases and builds and I finally have it all where I wanted it. Life has took some changes and we just won't be able to use it much. It was torn down to the tub and all what little rust was there was fixed and the inside was sprayed with Rhino lining so It can get wet even though it is always garaged if possible. This is my daily driver. It still has stock 3 speed and is running 33-12.50X15 wheels. Dual tanks. Nothing wrong at all. Medical issues are causing me to sell. I gave my 1972 to son and just sold my 71. Asking $8500.00. I would have no fear in jumping in this baby and driving 400 miles non stop. This because I have done exactly that. I bought this to use the motor, frame, drive train and put a 74 body on it. I'm going to put a motor in the 74 so this project could be yours.
The guy I bought it from put most of the miles on it and was very attached to it so I let him keep one back door that had a zappa for president on it.
With tires this is a daily driver, believe it or not. It runs better than my 78. Shifts smooth and acts just like it should in low. The frame is perfect. When you look underneath it looks like new. It needs a tub, back door, and perhaps a new windshield frame. I'll be putting around in it until sold, so you may be able to drive it away. I would trailer it just to be on the safe side.

GENERAL
I bought this cruiser in ~1991 and, like many, went through a series of mods towards more extreme wheeling. My first trip to GSMTR I pulled a trailer behind this 40 and on my last trip five years ago, it was on a trailer. I have run every trail challenge that GSMTR had to offer as well as runs around the Midwest and South Dakota.
This is an experienced rockcrawler so it has some trail rash, but rust is not an issue. I put on a Gen 1 Aqualu body tub and replaced any other parts that had shown rust. The frame is absolutely solid.
