I'm looking at picking up this 40 as a project since it's close to my location and the price seems reasonable to me from what I've seen on ebay. However, I'm no expert on what these are really worth. I'm going to look at it tomorrow. I was just wondering what you guys think it's worth, and if there is anything glaringly wrong with this that I should really take a look at.
The price of a good 40 Series seems to be increasing. :)

Regretfully, I have to sell my Ol’ Rusty C*ck, 1974 FJ40. In the past year, I have installed a new battery with dual battery tray set-up, dual fuel tanks with electric fuel pump (Painless Wiring), replaced fuel lines, Bilstein shocks with new tie rods, rebuilt steering box, 33" BFG's, DUI ignition with electric choke, and rebuilt weber carb w/ headers. It has the original 2F engine with 4642 miles. It has resided in Southern California (minimum rust) and we just moved to Washington and it has stayed in our shop. It has a soft-top w/doors and the hard top, plus many other extras.

This truck came to THE West Coast Canada from Santa Ana California about 5 years ago. It has about 50% original paint, beautiful Desert Tan, with the odometer reading only 1920.5 miles but my guess is that has rolled once so it is probably 119K miles. It is a Calif emissions truck. The 2F was desmogged with a header when I bought it. Since I have owned it, I have had the head rebuilt and new BFG 32s on white spoke rims and a set of mint new hub caps come with it too. I sent carb out for rebuild and installed new radiator. Truck was repainted before me because the desert sun faded the original paint. It has a factory winch front bumper, and an aftermarket Tuffy box. Seats and dash pad are like new and stock. The truck is really rust free...

I bought this as a project and was hoping to bring it up to a deer hunting, dirt road machine (nothing fancy). What I liked about it, was the fact that the rust is mostly in the 1/4's and rear seal. Frame, floor pans, hard-top, etc. has very limited rust. Also, I liked the fact that it hasn't been "hacked" on (it is basicly stock).
It needs front bumper, windshield, and front fender (passenger side) is somewhat bent. Engine is in but only by mounts. Tranny & transfer as well as drive-shafts are in back. BTW... there is a radiator in the back.
I have done nothing with this since it rolled of the trailer when I bought it. If you know cruisers, you can tell that most of it is still there and it is a good example of an...
Just found this :bounce: - listing came out today. Looks pretty good for the price, but since it's had a paint job could be a lot of bondo under there.
Price doesn't seem bad if it actually runs decently. Thinking (fingers crossed) rust isn't a big issue because of the location.

The 2F was desmogged with a header when I bought it. Since I have owned it, I have installed 2 1/2 in Hell Creek lift and new BFG 33s on new Toyota stock rims and new hub caps.. I sent carb to Jim C for rebuild and installed new radiator and exhaust. I repainted the hood and fenders because they were badly faded from the desert sun. I repainted the quarters because they both had large holes cut for CB antennas. The doors, top sides, ambi doors and 90% of the interior is original paint. It has a Warn 8274 and Tuffy box. Seats and dash pad are like new. The truck is truly rust...

I know everyone says they hate to sell their 40 series. I really do not want to sell mine at ALL. I love it and have been building it for a couple of years now. Ive done all the work and fabrication myself. So there is a part of me in ths cruiser. I have been a hard core enthusiast since I bought my first one in 1999. This one I intended to keep as a family heirloom to be passed down to my kids. That being said, I have just been handed a financial opportunity that I cant pass up. I am doing everything I can to make that happen without selling my beloved, so this is my plan B.

I have this truck on consignment. Assuming it's still available, she's going on eBay Sunday night.
Very nice low miles survivor with original paint, upholstery, etc, and no rust. It was rustproofed when new and appears to have been babied. The truck is in on Oahu and costs about $1050 to have her shipped to Long Beach. The owner put headers and and Holley on her but saved the original carb and exhaust manifold. He also swapped the wheels but saved the original wheels and hubcaps. These all come with including two original Dunlop tires.
