For those of us shopping, what the heck is going on here?!
It's sad enough when individual sellers misrepresent their vehicles or play dumb about their FJ40's history and condition. It only takes a little research and advice here on MUD to spot a lot of nonsense.
This looks like a phishing scam of some kind. Just search CL for "fj40 unmolested" in just about any market and you'll get this hit. It varies slightly.
I hope nobody is falling for this. I don't know what's on the other end of the email, but it can't be good.

Alright, I need an FJ40 for my diesel build. I need a full vehicle but it does not need to be in driving condition. What I really need is a good body, the paint can be terrible and the motor blown, tires flat I don't care about all that, I just need it to be as complete as possible and the body in the best condition as possible (preferably not bonded by someone else to get it into "good" shape) the less paint the better. Ok so i am listing my 1972 FJ40 for sale. I moved to Texas from Montana about 7 months ago and never had the time or the money to transport this Land cruiser down..... so there is sits in Montana getting no use.
first off it needs some work.
-Power steering pump-
Before i moved I installed Saginaw power steering. I used a remote type pump and have had nothing but problems with it. iv gone through two pumps in 6 months of using the system. I have a serpentine system for the motor with everything you need that will go with the cruiser.

I bought this from another MUD member, but all I needed was the pre-smog 1974 frame and title, so I don't have any use for this, now 1976 frame and title.

With both kids almost out of college I have decided to reward myself with an FJ40.
I have never owned one but have had Jeeps and EB's. I have always loved the look of the FJ40 and thought I would start here with a WTB request.
Ideally would like a solid weekend driver that is mechanically sound and reliable. I have looked at a few online, but most are from dealers and have very high price tags. I'm trying to stay in that $8-12k range.
If your viewing my request and have an FJ that your not using much and want it to go to a good home please shoot me a message. Doesn't have to be perfect or restored, but not looking for a project either. Don't mind a few cosmetics but I'm not very mechanical so a solid reliable driver is...
I need to part with my 1978 FJ40. Pictures attached. I bought it in 2002 and had it painted dark red. The two front fenders were replaced with Aluminum but otherwise the body is rust free. I put on the diamond plate corners because I like the look, not to cover something up (plan to remove and take pictures this weekend). The interior, running boards, and head liner were coated with "rhino lining." Wheels are American Racing and tires are Procomp x-terrain. Set covers are Wet Okole (again for the look rather than to cover up problems). High intensity Hella fog lights mounted to front bumper brush guard.
Have more in it but am looking to get $12K. PM if interested. Also appreciate any feedback - would this be an easier sell...

I figure the pictures will do most of the talking but here is some basic info:
-Majority of the resto was done some time ago, around '00-'01 and unfortunately driven very few miles from then til now (example: only logged 1400 miles between '08 to present time).
Rebuilt engine, new clutch and other rebuilt drivetrain componentry were all performed as well. Zero engine oil leaks and runs/drives as it should.
-The obvious non stock items installed are the wheels, tint, stereo, rancho suspension, and nifty little interior pull handles. .
-Numerous items have been powdercoated, too many to list, just see pics.
-I'd say less than .5% rust. All being super light surface stuff, like on the grille as seen in the...
