What Did You Do with Your 80 This Weekend?

Yup. Always do that anytime I have a tire off
A little late with the jack thoughts...a few days at the beach and it seems like I've been off grid for weeks!

In any case, don't forget your GlueTread kit plus Colby emergency valve stems that can be installed without de-beading the tire...could eliminate the need for the jack (or at least pulling the wheel all the way off) with a quick sidewall fix or valve that got ripped out.

For jacks, I too use the OEM bottle with the @LandCruiserPhil adapter plus a Mojab (ARB knock off) as well...the High Lift was just begging to bite a few fingers, so that one stays in the garage now. I also have the Harbor Freight Badlands off road jack that I absolutely love...except for the weight and size to take with me. I do have a Barnes 4WD cradle for it that can be bolted in. Honestly, I had to take the jack to work the other day to fix a work van tire...it was nice having the cradle to pop it into without even bolting it in so it wasn't rolling around the back of my 4Runner daily. Without the cradle, you almost need sand bags to keep it from rolling around!

And it looks like Mojab is doing their version of the one @Outsane linked up too...albeit a bit more expensive!

Not weekend stuff, but finally got around to replacing (probably the original) a couple of relays. Today, getting a little shop time in… applying seam sealer to the fenders and to the replacement sill that I welded in. It’s nice to finally be addressing the little things. 🍻

Painted the OEM rims and got some new Yokohama AT4s

Put in OEM shocks all around and flushed and replaced brake fluid today. I was going to do springs too but decided to wait until I get an ARB front bumper in the future and go a bit stiffer/taller then.

Ride was definitely better, and brakes much more responsive after the pads over the weekend and new clean fluid.

Spring swap on the 1997 Land Cruiser. We've had this one for 20+ years and it's gone from stock suspension, to OME stockish lift, to Iron Man mild lift, and now back to stock. My wife mainly drives it and she has knee problems so I decided to lower it Cruiser. We'll also be going back to stock wheels and 265/75/16 tires instead of the 285s currently on it.

4 new OEM springs and each had a different part number, got the numbers from @OGBeno.

48131-6A570, I put this on front right
48131-6A480, I put this on front left
48231-6A680, I put this on right rear
48231-6A690, I put this on left rear

Plus a couple of new rear spring rubber cushions 48257-60020

New OEM front spring.

Iron Man springs removed. The spacers were unneeded and gave the rear a little too much lift.

Sitting on new stock springs. Next up will be new tires, going back to 265s on stock aluminum wheels.

Dobinsons IMS kit on @samc2447 ’s diesel swapped 80 and bilstein/icon on mine.

Started the summer road trip. Phase 1 is a "sprint" to Albuquerque then we can take it slow from there and start the trip for real. Still considering heading up to Prudhoe Bay but that will likely mean parking up somewhere for a week to meet work commitments...
Parking somewhere in the lower 48? A member of IH8MUD could probably help you out. I'd suggest visiting Tombstone in the Yukon and then possibly up to Tuktoyaktuk rather than Prudhoe.

Did some simple stuff - door sensor / courtesy light; received one remote and programmed it (awesome suggestion from a few weeks back on here - ordered a second one this weekend in fact!); and the fuel sender went bad so I had bought a Toyota one and then a fuel pump from Hella; ended up with a basically new fuel pump already installed by PO (rubber stopper on the bottom looked new at 292k miles!?!) so I didn't put the new one in.

waiting on my newly webbed seat belt to get here, as well as a tailgate latch.

In other news I halfway got through a front brake job on the wife's explorer and found out they have 2 different sized rotors and I got the wrong ones. It will be down until Tues/Weds when the new ones come in.

Well i made it to Albuquerque last week but work interrupted the plans. Parked up at the airport and headed over to europe. My son seized the opportunity and him and 2 of his buddies will collect the truck today and do a road trip. Not sure how comfortable i am with 3 20 year olds driving around the western states but I would have loved to have that opportunity when i was his age.
Alaska is off the menu for now. Time has conspired against me this time. I won't get back from europe for another 10 days.

You should be good unless the driver fails asleep on I-25 between Albuquerque and Socorro. 10 years ago, my son of that age group did. The truck saved him. Any lesser vehicle would have been bad. He came out of it with a concussion, a black eye and a bruised shoulder.

When I finally got my 80 back on the road another the new short block, I had a rear drive shaft clattering around. I swapped out the existing 3” OME springs for EFS 3” springs and the increase in lift caused an issue with the pinion angle causing the drive shaft noise. I also noticed the front output shaft of the new rebuilt transfer case was leaking slightly. I noticed when I replaced the dust cover during the rebuild it apparently did not seat properly. I took the transfer case out to try a friends transfer case just to make sure I had not done something wrong during the rebuild on the t-case which did not change the noise with the drive shaft. I ordered a new Type T seal and got everything changed out and put back together today. The 80 has been at the shop for a full alignment and 35’s so I wanted to get this done so I can swap out the t-cases when I get it back this week and get the rear DC shaft ordered.

I am also considering changing out the rear springs for something different. What came with the lift I ordered from Superior Engineering was 3” heavy EFS springs. During the build I decided I was not doing a rear bumper with tire carrier, etc, I also opted out of the LRA auxiliary fuel tank, and ended up removing all of the seats with the exception of the two front seats. This has made the rear higher that intended. No one in the US carries the EFS brand springs so I am about to try and figure out the next best option. Thinking Dobinson but a lot of options and need the cruiser back so I can measure current height as well.

Replaced the driver’s side rear window vent. I did the passenger side a few weeks ago because it was broken and this one looked fine. Yesterday the weatherstripping was hanging down the side of the truck, so I replaced it. Also worked on the OEM jack a little. Scraped some rust- made sure it worked smoothly- put rustoleum rust reformer on and then a top coat of bed liner. Still works fine, so remounted it in its spot.
