:confused:Has anybody installed 3FE heads & fuel injection on a 2 F motor? does it give better power? fuel miliage? Low end idle and power or would it be a waste of time and money? Is there any head work that would need to be done or would it be a bolt on system?

Search 2FE. A number have done or are doing this.

Good gawd man ... search. There are about a dozen of us that have done this. Oh, wait, this is your first post so I'll be a little nicer.

:flipoff2: <- Official Mud welcome greeting.

The following MUD regulars come to mind.

tonkota - 2FE in FJ62, documented in Toyota Trails
matt.mcinnes - turbo'd hotrod 2FE in FJ40 (Australia) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/40-55-series-tech/134529-2f-3f-e-2f-eti-into-my-fj40.html
MMW68 - Has a straight up 3FE in his FJ40, but install is the same - 3FE FJ40 RTCustoms build
RockDoc - I think still in progress - https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/253031-improving-flow-3fe-s-top-end.html and https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-wagons/277349-help-me-plan-2fe.html
CruisinFJ60 - status?
pappy (me) - 2FE in FJ40, link (need to update that) - 3FE Stroker in a 1969 FJ40
zebrabeefFJ40's - https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-...head-injection-real-world-stories-please.html
BamaBleach - 3FE in a FJ40 - BamaBleach's FJ40 buildup

There are others, but I can't remember who. I would highly recommend you read over these installs before asking too many questions.

One more to add to the list - zebrabeefFJ40's https://forum.ih8mud.com/60-series-...head-injection-real-world-stories-please.html

Yup, mine's in "progress" (hope to be back at it seriously soon)

Here's my relevant threads:

Something else I'll add. You can search just the FJ40 forum for 3FE too. Bolting on the necessary bits to a 2F is not too hard, but there are some things you need to know (domed vs. flat pistons). It's the 3FE wiring that usually hangs people up, or at least scares the crap out of them. So also search on 3FE, but just in the FJ40 forum. You can search 2FE in both the FJ40 and FJ60 forums, but you will also get TBI conversions as well. When you search pay particular attention to the advice from two fellas, Jim C. (aka FJ40 Jim) and Mark W. (aka Mark W).

  • Better power: Mine did, but my engine is special. I out torque a 1FZ-FE, but make less HP (124rwhp@3250rpm, 233rw lbft@1950rpm). That potentially equals 284lbft and 151hp at the crank assuming a conservative 18% loss through the drive train. Torque increased 42% over a 2F, and 29% over a 3FE.
  • Fuel mileage: Not in mine. 13mpg on a good day, 12mpg on a not so good.
  • Low end: Mine makes at least 200lbft at the rear wheel starting at 1150rpm
  • Head work: Only if you want to. Taking a stock 3FE head and putting it on the proper 2F block takes the compression to 9:1 without doing anything else. Port and polish is always a good idea.
Keep in mind my engine has been worked over. Balanced, bored throttle body, larger injectors, cam, head work, using the stock EFI. Waste of money? Not as far as I'm concerned, but if you want all that done you better get a crow bar into your wallet.

Welcome :flipoff2: and the answer is YES.

Pappy has pretty much laid it out in the previous posts.
