Has anyone used the jt outfitters front disc brake conversion, it seems simple, id like to know what everyone thinks about this package

Done a couple, and all went well with no ill sideffects.....but you just opened a can-of-worms, be ready!

I can't speak of their disc conversions but I've dealt with them before on a few occasions. Very poor customer service, poor instructions if you get any, and parts that aren't fabbed correctly is my experience with them

they will lie right to your face, but other than that it's all good.....

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?:D

This has been talked about several times. Use the search function... Overal, JTO is the worst LC parts company in the country. Their parts seam to be a little less expensive, but you get what you pay for. Do a search and learn how to do the disc brake conversion from either mini-truck or FJ60/62 knuckles... Way pay 500 bucks for inferrrior parts when you can use Toyota parts and do it for much less? In one sentance, "Do not buy this kit; it may look enticing sitting there on EBAY, but you will regreat it."

yes but

Yeah I hear ya, ive read everything on here about it.
But i cant find any minitruck for a doner, no scrap yards here, ive posted a want ad here several times and no one responds.
What do I do now.

Dealing with JTO is not without issues. With that said I did the front and rear disc brake conversion about 6 months ago and I am very pleased with it. I also used there disc brake master cylinder and the add on Proportioning valve. I do not do any wheeling so replacing the coarse birfields with the better mini truck birfs was not an issue. I also did not have mini truck parts readily available to me. Given those two factors, I decided to go with the kit. Could it be done cheaper? Yes, but I know that I can stand on my brakes and stop very fast in a very controlled manor. The kits brakes are also not inferior to the toyota disc, but the coarse birfs are, and that really is where the true decison is.

JTO

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I bought one of their kits and when it arrived one of the rotors had not been machined out. I had a guy do it for me but it was a pain since I discovered it about the time I got all ready to do the conversion. It was however easy to install and I am pleased with it but they can be a pain to deal with. Just my 2 cents worth.

patience is a virute! so take your time and find some minitruck ( or late model fj40 or fj60 or fj62 outers). don't bother with the bolt on crap cause it's just that; crap. you could do the earlier cruiser discs with the smaller pattern knuckles as well but why not get the best parts available for the swap, especially if they're gonna cost the same?! replacement parts for the minitruck outers (1982-85 are the best years) or any other factory outers with the big knuckle bolt pattern will actually cheaper and easier to find than any other part setup you might find.

so take your time and do it right!

you know, i like manafree and what they do for us cruiserheads. without suppliers like them, our hobby would'nt be what it is today.

however, i don't like that kit for several reasons:

1) expensive compared to the larger pattern oem outers
2) parts are a bitch to find if needed. napa ain't gonna have pads in stock for ya, nevermind anything else reauired to service/fix this system
3) replacement parts cost
4) still small pattern knuckles
5) ...........

whenever i do a conversion or modification, i try to use as many oem comp[onents as possible, be that toyota, gm or whatever. that way, there are no esoteric parts to be found. the chances of finding the replacement parts for an oem unit ( be it oem or aftermarket) and aquiring them for a decent price are much better.

but that's just my $.02's worth. :hhmm:

I used there conversion disc brake rotors for my rear conversion. Their website clearly said the "hub is opened to fit your hub 4.20inch." The rotors they sent me were not opened up. They REFUSED to send me the correct rotors or to take back the ones they sent me. It cost me additional $ to get them opened up locally.

I will never do business with them again. Steer clear of their brake products.

SORRY! I hate to get involved in these JT s..tfiitters threads. On the other hand, having gotten the wood put to me on their lousy PS kit and lack of instructions, lack of a proper pulley width, lack of a functional PS pump bracket, lack of email replies, getting blown off on the phone support <> yada, yada, yada, I have to pipe in. (That was 2 years ago and haven't been back to buy, BTW) If you have to spend 2 hours searching on Google or on this board, LCML or Pirate or anywhere, do it. There's no good reason to buy from these guys, but there are plenty of reasons not to. 'Nuff said on my part since a grown person will have to make thir own decisions. Better luck to those of you who go down the JT path than I had! LC

Hi guys,....I haven't started to install any of the SPECTER kits I bought yet,...hope I don't have similar problems,...all I know is I bought everything "hands on " right over the counter from Marv the owner ,,spent couple hours with him , he was VERY helpful and on anything used we went and picked out the one i wanted and he was a nice a guy as you could ask for. (just my 2 cents)

I have both the front & rear disc kits from JTO and they work great. :)
