That was a great video. That thing was beat to hell yet the frame was still mint.

Poor down under piggy. Looks like while the kids were trying to kill it, they successfully managed to tear the elevated exhaust pipe off. Dearly departed, we are gathered here....

With amby doors to boot. Whatever, if we had countless LC's over here like they do over there, we'd be doing the same thing.

We don't have many 55's! Jeffries is a couple of hours from me. I was just watching that wishing that I could have had it as a parts rig. Sad........

Exactly. They are a very rare breed down here. I know of 2 in my area.
The one at the wreckers the other day is gone,
funnily enough the other 2 are the Team Acid comp rig you mentioned, and another he is building to replace it. Hardly much of a 55 though.
I desperatly want a 55, but everytime ones comes up for sale, I have no $$

45's 40's are everywhere here, 55's, non existant.

Still rather see her be used than be sent to sims metal.

I know of 3 others here in Launceston plus one in Longford 20 minutes away. One not far from me has a 253 V8 in it. I've only seen it from a distance and it looked good.

I had to go to Ballarat to get mine!

BTW one of the 55's close to me looks sweet and has a 253 V8 in it. The guy is thinking of selling it. I have first dibbz on it!

OZ either didnt get many 55 wagons or they just didnt last, they are rare as hens teeth down under.

what were the popular rigs during the 70's? i know the Holden half breed car/truck, (el camino) has been popular through the years. seems like the 70 series has really been the rig of choice for ozzies since its introduction. but in the 70's when the 55 was out what did you guys get instead for wagons?

I think that series 2 and 3 Land Rovers were really popular. When I was a little kid in the late 70's our family transport consisted of three consecutive series Land Rovers (before Dad saw the light and bought a HJ60!) . From memory there were at least another 2 Land Rovers in our street. I also remember that Telecom (our Government owned phone company) used FJ55's as their company cars, so there must have been quite a few of them. They were painted totally orange. I think that most FJ55's simply rusted away.

That vids was nuts i thought the dizzy when it first hit the water would have cut out right away like my old 3f used to

Ive only seen to white 55's on the road a few years back and a brown 55 i found dumped in the bush fully rusted and no diffs etc i did post pics in the 40-55 sections can post here??

I dont think we got many, and the ones we did get seen a hard life. Remember too, we got a lot of 45's then 60's and 75's. so by the mid to late 80's the old very outdated 55 was just seen as a piece of junk - most had a fair share of roof rust by then too.. We had a 76' 55 as our family car, from 1980-about 1992. by then it was embarrasing to go places when other friends families had a new 80 series with electric windows a cigerette lighter and aircon. (although the cool factor if we still had it would be waaay off the scale - too me anyways)
sadly, 55's and now 60's are seen as paddock bashers. They are just an ugly old rusty car to most. Landcruisers dont really seem to have be caught in the restoration wave down here yet. most old ones are put to hard work on farms and lost for good.
I have an article from a 1977 wheels magazine where they road test all the popular 4wd of the 1970's. They used a 55, as they couldnt source the more "popular" 40 series from a dealer at the time due to demand. The landcruiser wins hands down amongst its competitors (patrol, heep - which sucked, and landrover). Once I buy a scanner, ill copy it and post it for you. the report still isnt flattering, and its not to the 1980 that the luxuries in the 60 series and the diesel) kicks off family 4wding

In the 70's most people were using Holden's, they were, along with locally manufactured Fords, are a very capable motor car, and would go nearly everywhere you wanted them to go. Holden in particular have been building cars since 1948 that were designed to carry a family of 6 around town or to any of the far outreaches of the land in relative comfort. They both still are some of Australias best selling cars.

The 70 series is awesome but expensive, and is outsold by the Hilux, which is now Australias best selling car.
