If I go buy a new oil pressure sending unit for $45 does anyone think my oil pressure indicator will show higher at warm low idle? It's always above "L" and everyone seems to say "it's OK". I'm trying hard to think it's OK.....It's just so hard.....My Sequoia with the 5.7L V8 barely moves off the mid range across all driving conditions. (But my 1992 Chevy S10 with a 4.3L V6 also had similarly low oil pressure and I put over 300K on that motor so I know I can be OK)

Yes, at cold start it shows slightly above half way. On the highway it's a little above the hash mark on the 1/4 scale.

Put it out of your mind. Doesn't matter what another vehicle shows, it is NORMAL for the 100 series. For that matter the 80 series too.

Put a mechanical gauge on it...if you just want to satisfy yourself...but you have about 15 psi at warm idle, then it climbs quite steadily as RPM increase.

It’s because the Land Cruiser has a real gauge and the Sequoia has an idiot light gauge that only really moves when there’s a failure. My gauge runs similar at idle in traffic after warming up. I’ve thought about replacing my sending unit but everyone else seems to have similar gauge fluctuations so I haven’t done it.

nothing is wrong with that oil reading, most likely, rather standard. Seems with all these pics, LX temps run "higher on gauge" than LC, which probably goes to show gauges aren't that dialed in.

Ok thanks guys. I promise it's the last time I ask about this.... ;)

No....absolutely understandable.

It concerned me with my 80 series....so I bought an Auber Gauge, moved the factory sending unit to the firewall in conjunction with a transducer for the Auber Gauge so I would have both the dash gauge and OEM sender and the Auber (digital with highly accurate sender) to compare.

Turns out I have 12 psi at the very LOWEST (engine warm, summertime, idle). The FSM states anything from 4 psi (yes FOUR) or up is fine. So I have about $300.00 in a gauge that absolutely confirms what others always said.

With the 1UZ FE and 2UZ FE engines: Check your oil LEVEL via the dipstick and if there is ANY pressure showing on the dash gauge, you are fine.

I have 310K on my 80 series and at highway speed (65 mph) I will have over 60 psi pressure (nearly 70 after a fresh oil change).

Use a RELIABLE oil filter, check your level often and you are good to go.

I have changed out 2 sending units with new OEM sending units. One was on my 2002 LC and sons 2004 LC.
On both it made a difference at idle. The 2002 LC had the most change. It used to sit on L at idle.
It still Is lower reading than other vehicles that I own.

And in neither case did the actual oil 'pressure' increase right?

Only the the position of the needle on your dash gauge, creating a more acceptable notion of correctness.

I struggle to understand why folks anguish so...over the factory oil pressure reading lower than other vehicles at idle.

Toyota 4.7's might leak some (or even a good bit)... but they simply don't have oil-pressure related failures. So it is a non-issue.

I fixed my Low Oil Pressure by replacing the Receiver (the Gauge in Cluster, Part Number 83885-6A840)

I've been tracking this issue on my 2UZ-FE engine in my Tundra. It got me here, never thought to replace the cluster gauge. My
pressure reads just over the L at high power settings, its disconcerting. I'll see if this gauge swap is viable on my '07 Tundra.
