Looking good Dan.

Don't worry. We all do silly things at times. As you get older, you find your mind gets better and better at dumping all recollection of such events.

buddy, if i posted up all the stupid things i did over the decades it would be a long long thread...

that would be a 10mm X 1.25 X 70

what i use is a die and get a longer bolt and thread it down then cut the head off ... works very well

That will be the plan..found the bolts from Fastnall. On order.

Thanks Wayne.

Anyone have an idea where I can track down some flywheel bolts? 90105-13002

Can I just find some grade 8 bolts and use them?

Dan

it will ge the thread pitch that will be a bitch.

are these for a 3B? can't remember, if so post up the length ... i MIGHT have some here.
6 or 8 bolt pattern?

Don't Toyota have them Dan?

I just bought a set for this B:

Well, I'm not sure. the local dealerships don't even list them,,,the Toyota Parts online page says not available. Dan at 4Wheel says he has them, so I think they are still available. It's a long story, but Wayne (crushers) has talked me down off the ledge. basically, I didn't put any loc-tite on them, and thought I would have to remove them for the third time and didn't want to reuse them.

The consensus is that I should be fine...torqued to 130......What do you think Tom?

So you re-used old bolts and torqued them to 130 ft-lb Dan?

Well if they survived that without snapping I'm sure you'll be fine :D.

My FSM says they should only be torqued to 102 ft-lb:

I don't think your bolts are likely to fail in use. I think they are only likely to fail when tightening/loosening ... So best to leave them alone now I reckon. But if you do HAVE to remove them again ... you may well break some (and I suggest replacing them all automatically at that stage).

Hmmm...my FSM says 130, as do several posts i read. As you have stated before, there isn't much consistency with Toyota FSMs.

I took them out twice and torqued to 130 both times, and they looked and felt fine. No doubt if I take them out again at some point I will replace them.

As always thanks for the advice Tom.

Aha.

I just checked the "1988 B, 3B, 11B, 14B FSM" and I see your 130 ft-lb figure there. But it also shows 8 flywheel bolts (instead of 6), and the "star-head" type of bolt (whatever you call it ... I've forgotten).

Is your 3B late-model or early-model and what's the bolt-system used?

I thought it was pre-1988 and possibly from a BJ42, but I don't have time to search back right now to find out.

The FSM I looked at was for the earlier BJ42-type of 3B engine.

As usual, you are probably correct...it is an 82 6 bolt flywheel. I guess at 130 they aint coming our with or without loc-tite.

Thanks again Tom..I wish I had your knowledge and patience for research.

Yeah I think the lower torque figures do apply to your engine then Dan.

And I didn't know about the bolt/torque differences till just now.

:hhmm: Or maybe I had known some time in the past, but forgot again till just now ....... That's probably more likely to be the case because I tend to have to relearn lots of stuff now. Hopefully "how to feed myself" won't come into this category for a while yet :D ... But then again I have started drooling on my pillow at night now ... so that's a worry. ........ Just read yesterday that the brain starts deteriorating from age 45 too.. So mine's been deteriorating for what? ....Uhmmm - 14 years! :hhmm: Anyway - nice to know at least someone thinks I'm still "with it" Dan!!! (The :princess: sure doesn't.)

I can't imagine that the higher torque will cause me any problems in any case.

D

getting old is fine as long as you can keep doing what you love ...
or is it doing your love?
or is it your love doing you?

what i hate is the loss of hearing and the eye sight getting bad, now if the pecker and the pooper stops working i am cashing out.
