rear axle and vrakes
So I think for a rookie, I did a pretty credible job of my rear disc brake set up. On the advice of Poser, I went with the TSM rear disc kit.
As you know, the project came with all kinds of extra bits and pieces. 2 of which, were axle housings. Since this project came from Canada, it had the gooiest tariest undercoating I had ever seen, and it was going to cost a bunch to reuse the old axle housings, so I went with the extras that came with it.
All kinds of things were subtly different. the breather and brake tee was on the opposite side..the rig was a LHD but my replacement frame was a RHD..long story short, it too some work to get things to fit and line up.
I chose to go with the Eldorado calipers which of course required some special brake lines, and some Lokar e-brake cables. I made a custom bracket that you can see in the first pic to reuse a nutted bracket on the axle between the u-bolts. All this has been done in the FAQ a million times, but I have to include the pics in my build thread for posterity.

I used some pretty slick brake brackets that I got from Vic at Hadley. (as a side note, he has been by far the most helpful parts supplier I have used on both my projects to date..he has gotten me more hard to find stuff than anyone).
I got the SS custom brake lines locally. I just took in all the lines I had and they had all the ends needed, and it was only a few bucks more for SS..totally worth it IMO.

And a couple more.
So the rear diff-breather/brake-tee is on opposite sides depending on whether a cruiser is LH-drive or RH-drive Dan? (That's something I wouldn't have expected.)
Mine's definitely on the left for my RH-drive:
And you're certainly making fine progress.
Incidentally .... Is your brake tee going to stay angled like that or are you going to square it up? (I guees the suspension U-bolt is getting in the way of squaring it up ... which is a shame..)
And just a heads up ... I run Gabriel shocks (if my memory serves me correctly) and they look to be about the same diameter as yours. - I found I had to panelbeat the top "bells" to avoid them fouling the tubular crossmember (at the top) when on full-compression.

Tom, great to hear from you! As always, I appreciate your perspective and feedback. You are correct about the T. Not only do the U-bolts get in the way, but the curvature of the axle housing interferes on the other side. it will have to remain angled. I went through a bunch of scenarios as to how I might reconfigure the fitting so as to get it square, but angling it was the simplest if not the most elegant solution.
I don't think/know if RHD or LHD made a difference as to which side the T went on..I think it was more about year. I do know that the RHD frame had the bracket for the rear brake line drop on the RH side, whereas it was on the left for the LHD frame which just means that I will cross over at some point, (either the firewall or across the frame someplace).
I have no idea as to the brand of shocks. They came with the Belton Suspension kit all in the same branded boxes. Everyone on here raves about the Belton kit, and how fortunate I am to have it. We will see how they go when it's all back together.
Thanks for the picture of the breather mount..when I got the project, it was just dangling. I received a new breather today, and was wondering how it might be held in place.

I wonder if the two bolts holdings the rear disk brake are strong enough.
With my project I'm not sure how my e-brake will work. I can use my 40 series rear axle and convert to disk or drum parking brake, or use a 60 series axle, or, use my 70 series axle.

There are 3 bolts holding the discs..it's a TSM kit..very solid IMO. I won't know until I drive it, but I think I'll be very happy with the kit.
How much do you think it cost you in total to swap to rear disk?

My guess is $450.00 with the calipers and the customer brake lines etc..doesn't count shipping and windshield time chasing down the correct pads since the calipers came with the wrong ones.
Well worth it IMO. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

So I haven't posted in a while. lots of little tedious stuff going on, and I DO have a regular job.
Got the motor mounts back from the powder coaters..they will work slick I think. Call me anal if you want, but I powdercoated the bell housing.
I did my TO bearing..installed my new fork boot, and my new clutch slave...like I said, little bits here and there.
So I haven't posted in a while. lots of little tedious stuff going on, and I DO have a regular job.

So now on to putting the motor back together..I wish I had never taken off the timing gear cover..no reason to other than it needed cleaning up...what a hassle...Murphy's law got me again.
The gasket kit I ordered came from an "industrial" 3B..the ONLY difference in the gasket kit is the timing cover gasket. What a bitch to clean off the gasket residue on that thing too!..anyway..a new gasket was found on ebay in Texas of all places and is en route.
AC brackets are on the way, and the new oil pan..did I mention I was anal? The oil pan had a dent in it..bung needed to be relocated....just got a new one from Yard Pig..(thanks again mate!)
I digress...the parts are going back on the engine, and if all goes well, I will have the motor in place before I leave on a trip the middle of the month.

BTW...totally rookie mistake...I mounted the clutch assy the first time and realized that I hadn't put the plate on.Torquing the flywheel bolts and then removing them again while the engine was hanging in the air took a TON of work...wont be the last stupid thing I'll do on this project for sure.
