Here are some more pictures of the tranny mount..Again, not as easy as several people made it sound. I had to drill the holes, insert the bolts from the inside out..hold them in place and then slide the bracket over the bolts. Not that easy to do by yourself. I was only able to use ONE of the original forward holes with the nut on it.

I double lock nutted each bolt and used red Loc-Tite

just a suggestion... use a fish wire pull on the bolts, make it a one man job
Wire Pull - 11/16 (Qty 1) Reese Tools 110961
I have seen some 3' to 4' long for hard to get to applications in frames.

They come in all sizes or you can make you own with ss wire

Great suggestion! I have a bunch more to do..Thanks!!! Makes me wonder why I didn't think of it.

Bad A%@ brake hoses

So I found a guy locally that makes up custom brake hoses..What a relief to get them made exactly the right length, and they look bad a@$s. I'll post pics later of them installed. Not as expensive as I thought they would be..around $70.00 bucks for custom braided lines.

Showing them against the old ones in the pic.

motor mount measuring

So now we are temporarily bolting things back together to get the exact measurements for motor mount placement. We moved the tranny mount up 3" approximately, and need to stuff it all back in for placement.

Once we have that..take it all back out.

motor mount positioning

Thanks Deo and Sean! The mounts told us exactly where they wanted to be..Murphy's Law says that there would be nothing to hang them on, but we came up with a solid plan for sure.

Lots of marks, lots of measurements..not too tough to get them right I don't think.

I used white spray grease to give me a solid outline that would last in addition to the yellow crayon. The plan is to weld some channel "butterflied" out from the brackets and catch a set of holes on both sides of the mounting position. I was only able to "grab one hole per mount.

Deo's suggestion was to just weld...I just couldn't bring myself to do that to a powdercoated frame and then go back to try and repair it. in the end, he agreed with me!

Motor mounts

So some guys on here are lucky enough to have shops with benches and presses and tons of tools..me..I just have my neighbors garage an few hand tools.

I fabbed these motor mounts up by hand after we located them on the new frame. I just tacked one side together with an oxy torch set up..then ran out of gas. I'll tack the other side and then take them to the powdercoaters..he can finish welding them up and then powder coat them.

I'm pretty happy and proud how they turned out. As usual, you get better each time you do one, so I did a much better job on the second one..fewer holes to widen etc.

I had to countersink 1 hole on each to accommodate a rivet I guess I could have drilled it out and used the hole, but I had plenty of holes to grab. I only had to drill 4 holes in the frame..everywhere else I was able to grab empty holes, or holes with welded nuts.

One thing I tried to do was to round off the corners of everything to make it look more stock instead of just leaving rough squared off corners. I'll have the welder actually trim off the bottoms of the oem mounts and match my curves, again just to make it look more like it was supposed to be that way.

So here is the question. Should I go all the way through the frame with the bolts? I have some sleeve stock that I could cut to fit. I personally don't think it's necessary because I have the plate across the top. A friend suggested it would be a good idea.

Thanks!

Nice, you're at the same stage as me. Putting those engine mounts in looks fun - luckily my frame isn't powder coated so I can weld.

Is that motor mount from a B or a 3B?

This build is looking great! Just read through the whole thing... I really like how you're doing your motor mounts. I will try something similar when the time comes... Thanks

final motor mounts

So I test fitted the mounts today after welding..I just wanted to check the fit before I had them powder coated. Good thing. I had to make an adjustment to 2 holes.

The guy that welded and ground them did a great job I think..I had him round the bottoms again to make them look more oem instead of just fabbing them up and looking too shade tree.
