When the plate with the camhaft seal is taken off to remove/replace the seal, what is the correct sealant to use? Something like Permatex blue? There'd be a proper Threebond one that Toyota recommends. Ta.

Ordering parts right now - also getting new top/bottom rad hoses + a thermostat.

I use Permatex Black - but that's only because it's all I buy. The backside of that plate has a groove that needs sealant and is up against the block so could get warm-ish.
 
Toyota's FIPG is IMHO the best around, but otherwise Permatex The Right Stuff
 
Water pump every second timing belt IMHO - if you aren't getting 200k km out of a water pump, something isn't right.
This is what I do. When I write on that little sticker when I did the timing belt, I note whether the water pump was done or not (IE, 300,000 + pump/no pump). That way when I do the next service I have the sticker to remind me if the pump is due or not. If you don't know when it was last done though, replace it with the belt.

I think I remember using Toyota FPIG or whatever the FSM called for.
 
Did t-belt, tensioner and water pump a little while back, so now the shim job is very overdue.

I've done it once before nearly 10 yrs ago when 80 went over 600 k km's. Now it's at about 718 k km's.

I have the toyota valve spring tool, and remember it was an extremely messy job. I have a couple of egg cartons.

Other job I want to do is replace the injectors. I've got a set of all new OEM ones, the special injector seats and a new return rail. Anything I need to know about that job?
