I picked up a 2000 with 220k today. Drives great and lots of power. Makes me remember why I loved my Sequoia.

I have a few questions.

First, when I engage 4wd lo, no light comes on to let me know it is in LO...but the 4wd engages and works. Bad bulb? I think the 'D' light goes out when I put it in 4LO as well. Weird. When I hit the CDL switch then the VSC and CDL light both come on.

The radio works but the CD player doesn't do anything if I hit CD or LOAD. The seller said he thought there might be a cd stuck in there. Not a huge deal but wasn't sure of that was a known issue. Probably replace it anyway, but I like to know things.
;-)

How many gallon tank is it? 25 gallons like the 80? I will probably get another Ultragauge to throw in it to check mileage, etc.

Thanks for the help!

Looks like fun coming up!

Your questions sound like you may not have received an owner's manual with it. Log on to the Toyota Owner's site and download the manuals for your 2000 under the "Resources" tab.

Toyota Owners Official Web Site

The dash lights might be working ok, but the info in the manual can confirm that.

The tank is nominally 25 gallons and the exact number is in the manual.

For 2000 and newer, the CDL does not automatically lock when put into 4 LO. Must use index finger with just a tad of pressure to accomplish said goal.

(ask me how I know)

Right. But there isn't an indicator light being you at least that the 4lo is engaged? Even without the CDL.

Yes should be a light when you engage 4lo

Could be the dash light indicator bulb but my guess if it does infact engage 4 lo is a switch that I believe screws into the transfer case
Two wires and a 25mm wrench
I believe its the same one I replaced on my elocker
Someone will chime in
Runs about 50-90 depending on who you get it from
Contact Member Beno for all parts and great service

Check coil packs and replace all 8 at 220 miles if they haven't been done - known issue

Replace the fuse with a bran new one for the ECM I believe
Many have had weird problems when the truck just stops running but then an hour later no problem including mine
Fuse wasn't blown but had some coating or film
Replaced that and no issues
.20 cent insurance

Looks great congrats

Thanks for the info. Will it make any difference if I don't replace that? When I turn the key and the lights in the dash light up, I don't even see a 4wd light. Where would it be? I shined a flashlight on the dash to see if I could make it out but didn't see anything. I wonder, in this case, if it could be the bulb since no light on startup. ??

What's the point in changing coil packs before they go out?

No reason to do that; not a normal PM.

With the dash lights, IF there is one for being in low range in the 2000 LC and it's burned out, no need to replace it. You know when you're in low range!

No lights for 4 Lo

Ok, that is what I thought. I looked and looked. My 'D' light is out so I will have to take care of that.

And I need to figure out why the overhead DVD remote doesn't work.

Take the remote and aim it at your smart phone forward facing camera, if the IR led is working you will see it,
It's a trick I learned to check IR LEDs for use with night vision eq.

I'll run out to my 2000 and advise on the Lo range lights and such....

heck I do have an owners manual I could just dig into, lol...

Let's try this...

I'm almost positive you have no lights for LR, but if you engage the center locking diff the TRAC and VSC off lights turn on.

As for the "D" light being out, it's bright man, most guys leave it out. I ended up being able to stick in an old Honda bulb that I had in my toolbox so it's really dim but it does show up green.

Fixed the remote. I took it apart and cleaned some corrosion off and then works fine. I used to do the camera trick as well...haha.

I have an owners manual but it doesn't mention a light.

BTW, Congrats man!

Soooooo what happens to your 80???

Pretty sure I am going to put a RTT on the 80 and say 'done'. I am sure I will add some other stuff later, but I need to focus on a few other things other than spending $$ at the moment...haha. My intention with the 80 was always to make it a weekend/camping vehicle, but I don't need to add bumpers, etc bc, for what we will do, I most likely will ever need any of that. I might add a new suspension eventually and a rear swing out on it, but man it's a lot of work to do everything.
