Anyone tried this? An edge case for sure, but here's my use case.

Sometimes I want to run 78" crossbars and double stack roof boxes. (I've lots of kids.) With the OEM rails, this can done with Yakima Timberline towers and crossbars.

At other times I'll want to remove the Yakima bars and have a overlanding foundation for jerry cans and recovery gear.

So here's my question: Has anyone mounted Yakima towers to side rails that come with Prinsu, ARB base, LFD, etc?

To me this would be a maximally modular system.

I suspect the Timberline towers would not work, but perhaps there are other towers that would -- like those for flush roof rails.

I reached out to Prinsu and LFD, but they've never seen it or tried.

Currently planning to add LFD ruggedized bars to my OEM rack, which will still give me the option to put Yakimas on and really load it up. The downside is the weight limit for the OEM rails and limitations of attachment points on the outside of the rails.

Thanks!

I've set up something on the Bowfin, similar to the Prinsu, for mounting Yakima bars. I used the horizontal plates that form the base for awnings and drilled to mount the Yakima mounts. A few photos showing the setup on my 60 to give you some ideas.

What is this going on? I run the Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform most of the time but pull that off and install the 3 Rhino Rack 65 inch Vortex bars during the snowy months. Takes about 10 minutes to swap from one to the other once you've done it a few times and you have an extra set of hands to lift the platform.

Beautiful truck and great solution.

Question: What kind of mounts are those tho? I can't find anything like it on the Yakima site...

Is the plate specific to bowfin? Looks like maybe you drilled out a hole for the mount bolt?

The mounts are the top portion of a 1A raingutter mount 1A Raingutter System - https://yakima.com/products/1a-raingutter-system

I don't know if the plate if specific to Bowfin. Awning Bracket Mount Set - https://www.bowfincruisers.com/products/awning-bracket When I had the idea for this mount I contacted Patrick with Bowfin and asked if only the horizontal plates were available and I received a set. I did have to drill the hole for mounting the Yakima components.

This is the answer! Thanks much Jim.

I use Frontrunner adapter plates for Thule Aeroblade bars on my Prinsu rack. This allows me to run the 2 roof boxes you see in my profile picture. Last I recall, the adapter plates were less than $50 bucks. In the 3 or 4 years they have been installed, the powder coat seems to have worn a bit on them but the functionality is still good.
