Are definites.

2 80 series are the vehicles (one with full tire chain support). We have enough recovery gear and we'll have spare 80 series stuff to troubleshoot Rory's rig.

I'm going to try to figure out what the situation is with the FJC and it's owner.

Plan on 9am ish at the gas station 550/428.

Ali is coming down the mountain shortly. If you are planning to come, be sure to dress in warm layers with the some good water proof gear.

Talked with Ash.....he is going to pick up Rory. Talked to Mike. He is getting ready.

Let's use the board to coordinate meeting time and location....I assume the gas station at 550/428 is the ideal location to meet up.

Let's shoot for between 80am-9am?

I just talked to Onur. we leave at 8:30 - 9:00. The big potential wrench in the works is if we can't get ahold of Danny. His FJ Cruiser is in the way of getting Rory's out from the north. It's a 6 mile round trip from the north and over 20 miles from the trailhead to the south. We should get both out at the same time anyway.

Danny - if you're on here, please let us know what's going on from your end. I don't have contact info for you, and I don't know if anyone else does either. I think Amanda's dad tried to call me last night but my phone was dead and he didn't leave a number.

do we still have Amanda's father's number?

I asked him to get Danny's number for us, so we wouldn't have this worry. Should we call him and ask for the number?

update:

Onur has the number that Danny and Amanda gave to George. He is trying the number now, but it is giving him the busy tone...

Steve's talking to Danny right now.....Mike will probably be picking him up and we are good to go it looks like....

Gentlemen--start your engines!

See you all soon at the north portal.

Mike is picking up Danny on the way to the north portal.

I'm bringing the 4Runner. Winch resolved, I think. Here is a short video from yesterday. Crank up the speaker [big evil f'n grin]. Theme Song

Steve just called--Evan is in as well.

Current vehicles:

Evan
Mike
Ash
Jon.

We might be a bit later depending on when Evan can meet us. Regardless, let's still plan on 9am, worst case scenario we sit around and drink coffee and hang out for a bit....

:D

See y'all in a bit.

I am leaving to pick up Danny now.
-Mike-

I talked to Evan and Danny and the FJC are off the mountain.....

The 80 is still not running long enough to do any good. Ali, Mike, Jon and Ounur are attempting to drag it off the mountain now. They are going out the way we came in.

I sheared-off a valve stem in a nasty rut and had to winch-out to change the tire. I had a leak in the opposite front tire, at the bead, and that turned out to be small rocks and dirt between the tire bead and the wheel. I bet that's what happened to the leaking 100 tire as well.

I think I may convert and become a jew so I won't have to do this again...

Epic.

Funny thing is...I was unable to go but my wife wanted a tree. I told her to post up and join in the fun. I said she should take the cruiser and follow along and someone would help her with the tree.

She is very pleased that she decided not to go and one of the little ones had a B-day party to go to.

Epic.

ps Can't wait for pics and details. All this little tit for tat is killing me.

Home Safe

I would like to take a minute to thank everyone involved with the christmas tree run yesterday and those who joined in the recovery efforts today!!! This group may be the most selfless group of people ever. I will be definetely joining the club and promise to not cause so much trouble next time. Amanda says thanks and that your all great. She also mentioned that she can't wait till the next run. Her mother even recomended she go on the snow run. I hope the rest of the group made it out this afternoon safely and with Rory's vehicle.

Thanks again,

Danny

Wow! too bad i missed it! it's a good thing though with the plans Jill had for us. i'd have been killed for getting home that late and missing everything.

the X-mas Tree Run Curse strikes again! :skull:

O'neill, we need some of your Hoodoo to get rid of the curse.

I just got off the phone with Jon. It's off the mountain, albiet not under it's own power. It's at the visitors center waiting for the tow home. The last time I talked to Mike was ~4:00 and they were turning around and hooking up at that time so about a four hour trip down.

Here's a short version of what I know at this point.

Four trucks went in today from the north end - Ali in the lead with rear chains, then Mike & Danny in his 80, Jon & Steve in the 4Runner with rear chains, and Onur and me in my 80.

We got to Danny's stuck FJC. He had slid into a LARGE rut/hole in the dark following Dan out last night. He was leaning at quite an angle, but still on all four wheels. He was resting on his front cross-member and the rear diff as well. Ali was able to winch him out, and Danny and I headed back to pavement and we sent him on his way.

Onur joined up with Mike in his 80 and the other three trucks went to Rory's rig. I headed back to Abq following Danny. I spoke with Connie (Mike's wife) a couple hours ago. She had heard from Mike and they were unable to get Rory's 80 running, so they planned to drag it out, with one 80 in front and another behind. It would be a challenge, since without a running engine - no power steering and no power brakes. I assume they will be coming out the long way to the south. It's much further, but I couldn't imagine dragging it out the north end of the road.

That's all I know. Hopefully, we'll get another post once those guys get back to town. It may be a long night...

Evan
