Woods Embarks On New N.C. Golf Course Project Wed Aug 15, 6:47 AM ET

Tiger Woods, the world's top-ranked golfer, is coming to the Carolinas.

Woods announced plans Tuesday to design his first American golf course off of Interstate 40 east of Asheville, N.C., WYFF News 4 reported. Woods said the Cliffs at High Carolina will be a course where both amateurs and professionals could play.

The 31-year-old said the opportunity came about thanks to Cliffs founder and president Jim Anthony, and hopes the course can help in fighting childhood obesity.

"We've all seen physical education leave the schools and obesity and Type 2 diabetes has increased," said Woods. "I just think that golf can lead the example of wellness and that is why I wanted to partner with him."

Woods said it was Anthony's passion for health and wellness that made the idea work.

The course is scheduled to have rolling hills and amazing mountain views and will be a walking course only -- no golf carts.

However, Woods said his efforts are not just about the course itself. He said he would be moving to the area and buying a home in the Cliffs communities.

The Cliffs at High Carolina will be Woods' first American golf course design. His only other one is in Dubai.

Hmmm. I wonder if Tiger is a cruiser fan?

I doubt it.... I mean, he is sponsored by buick! You would think the #1 golfer in the world would get a better sponsor than buick.

old people golf. old people drive buicks. tiger drives buick.

It's a circle of life thing :)

Young people golf and drive Lexus too! :D

and wear diamond necklases....ridin' stretched lexuses..

I work on a golf course that just happens to be at a pretty upscale retirement community, and let me tell ya the blue haired set loves 'em a Buick. Now theres a lot of Lexus' and Mercedes and Cadillacs, one guy even has a sweet 2wd mini truck painted clemson orange with a clemson plate on the front, but something must happen to the mind once you reach a certain age that makes you automatically buy a Buick.

My roommate in college inherited his grandmothers Buick (it was 1 year old, she wanted a different color). It wasn't too much fun to drive, but it was the best road trip car ever. Fit 6 and felt like you were riding on a pillow. It had big comfy seats too. Not that I ever want a Buick, but I can see the draw...

I can on my next visit to that job. It is widely published on the internet after the manufacturer breached a confidentiality clause with Woods.

I got within 50 ft. of Tiger. Thats about it. With news of his deal with The Cliffs I betting on being busier than ever.

I've seen Tiger up close many times. From the days of AJGA competition, to NCAA matches, to a handful of his 13 major victories.

That being said, when I heard this announcement, I was hoping / thinking / sure you secured a position of substantial gain.

It is good to see Jim retains local relationships worthy of recognition!
