Woods Embarks On New N.C. Golf Course Project Wed Aug 15, 6:47 AM ET
Tiger Woods, the world's top-ranked golfer, is coming to the Carolinas.
Woods announced plans Tuesday to design his first American golf course off of Interstate 40 east of Asheville, N.C., WYFF News 4 reported. Woods said the Cliffs at High Carolina will be a course where both amateurs and professionals could play.
The 31-year-old said the opportunity came about thanks to Cliffs founder and president Jim Anthony, and hopes the course can help in fighting childhood obesity.
"We've all seen physical education leave the schools and obesity and Type 2 diabetes has increased," said Woods. "I just think that golf can lead the example of wellness and that is why I wanted to partner with him."
Woods said it was Anthony's passion for health and wellness that made the idea work.
The course is scheduled to have rolling hills and amazing mountain views and will be a walking course only -- no golf carts.
However, Woods said his efforts are not just about the course itself. He said he would be moving to the area and buying a home in the Cliffs communities.
The Cliffs at High Carolina will be Woods' first American golf course design. His only other one is in Dubai.
Hmmm. I wonder if Tiger is a cruiser fan?
