I saw a set of wobble joint socket extension bars at my local Harbor freight Tools and wonder if they are useful? I never used them and I don't wrench alot but I could see that they could be helpful in tight spots. They basically wobble the socket a little but not too much like a swivel joint. What's your opinion?

I have alot of wobble extensions and use them all the time. Unless I specifically need the socket to stay solid, I prefer the wobble's. Mine are all Snap-on so I can't comment on the ones from Harbor Freight but the priciple is the same. Sears has them as well.

I have extensions that have a unique tip on them. If you put the socket on a little they wil let you work at an angle. If you snap the socket on fully it is a regular extension. They are really handy.

They do not have a swivel built into them so I guess you could call them wabble extentions.

swivel

if you already have sockets you can buy a swivel to snap on them. Sooner or later you will need it. The swivel sockets with them already on are a nice to have but not really necessry as most sets come with swivels.

would I buy them, probably but then again I have ratchet wrenches, logn wrenches, shorty wrenches, offsets, thin wrenches ----and I have put them all to good use

I use a swivel most of the time when I have tough angles. I find the swivels a little hard to control because they seem to flop around. I think I'll get the wobble extensions seeing that they are helpful and only costs 10 bucks for 6 varieties .Thanks for the advice.

Run a few wraps of duct tape around your swivels. I dont have any wobble extensions, but havent needed any since taping the one swivel I already have.

That's a great idea, thanks for the tip! I still will get the extensions because of the variety of lengths and drives. I just didn't want to dump money into a possible "gimmick" tool that will just take up space and weight in the tool box.

I have a singe 3/8 wobble that I have put a lot of miles on...good tool for the applications when you need a shorter angle adaption, (shorter than a u-joint swivel type).

bah, who cares if they work...! the point is to have an excuse to buy some new tools, right...? :)

extensions from HF,, wobble or not are only good if you have a soft touch. the way they are made they get cast around the ball, i have repeatedly sheared that casting off (ripped the end off) to the point that now my trail tools bag has husky extensions.

wobble extensions good for many spots where you need just a little more clearance, they do not give you much but it is often all you need,

you need to also have a universal, but often where you need to use it it cannot fit, that is where universal sockets come in. but good ones are expensive.

Like RHINO says, u can break the stuff from HF. They are useful however.
