I gotta say, I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with the aftermarket glass from Safelite, but I had nothing but problems. Some install issues, and some with the glass. Here is my take:
1. Glass tint (upper strip) was wrong color with no option to get the correct OEM "look".
2. Tint was also uneven
3. Black edge trim on inside was messy
4. Glass LEAKED.. Which could be install, maybe not.
5. Installation was crappy 3 times with moulding coming off, the leak and messy sealant.
Anyway.. the 4th time was a charm and I raised so much stink that they gave me the OEM glass with no up-charge to their aftermarket glass.
I am proud of the little etching that says Toyota Mfg. And the fact that I a soooo anal, that I needed the tint to match the rest of the car.
Anyway.. That is my take on it.
Good luck.
DITTO DITTO DITTO.
I had the exact same experience with Safelite;
I watched the mobil technition work; he was very fast; TOO FAST,
as he skipped a few steps.
This was the first time I had watched a windshield beign replaced
in literally 30 years, so was not exactly sure of the procedure.
but afterwards, I went and checked into it.
He did not use ANY adhesive; key word here; it is not just to seal
against leaks, it is an adhesive to keep the windshield in place
in case of an accident.
He also did not prime the metal ie: from all the scratches left
from cutting the old rubber gasket out.
The generic glass was crap; I could see the optical variations
in it before he got it in the vehicle.
The end result? it leaked like a sieve and gave me eyestrain
from looking threw it.
Long story short; I complained; loudly, and they replaced it
with an OEM windshield.
However, that was not the end of the story;
three months later, I came out and it had cracked;
a stress crack from under the gasket and up about a foot long.
Called my insurance company; they will replace it, this
time with acompany of my choice;
it will be the guy who does all the glass on Mercedes. Toyotas
and BMW's in my area.
Lesson learned;
go with OEM glass, and use the guy who does all the work for
your local dealer.
