Yep, its broken.

Question: If you were replacing your windshield, would you go with a Safelite product?

Yup....

In fact, I actually have an appointment for tomorrow to have one installed though them `cause I busted mine on the last trip :mad:

Just had mine replaced. Went with Toyota Glass to ensure the proper fit. Total cost - $250 for my deductible.

I gotta say, I wouldn't have thought there would be a problem with the aftermarket glass from Safelite, but I had nothing but problems. Some install issues, and some with the glass. Here is my take:

1. Glass tint (upper strip) was wrong color with no option to get the correct OEM "look".
2. Tint was also uneven
3. Black edge trim on inside was messy
4. Glass LEAKED.. Which could be install, maybe not.
5. Installation was crappy 3 times with moulding coming off, the leak and messy sealant.

Anyway.. the 4th time was a charm and I raised so much stink that they gave me the OEM glass with no up-charge to their aftermarket glass.

I am proud of the little etching that says Toyota Mfg. And the fact that I a soooo anal, that I needed the tint to match the rest of the car.

Anyway.. That is my take on it.

Good luck.

I have Safelite in mine (14-months)...did a great job (that probably varies from location to location), bronze tint like the other windows, and good price (I think it was $325 for the glass and the installation).

Make sure they thoroughly understand this windshield has rivet on strips on each side of the glass (if they have not done an LC before I would personally pass). No other vehicle I am aware of uses this type of extra retention.

It is best to get an experienced installer for the 100. The molding needs to be ordered from the dealer and the rivets used. Mine is the PPG glass, bronze, and matches the original. Don't use a second tier glass shop, it needs to be done right the first time.

Thanks for the input.

FYI it took Mall of Georgia 3 tries and two windshields to get it right on the red 80 we had.

It was a joke.

That doesn't suprise me, they're a bunch of yahoo's over there. I'm not sure I would trust them to replace a light bulb anymore.

I've been told the best Toyota service in the Atlanta area is Cherokee Toyota. Long drive, but may be worth it... one day.

All glass has the potential of problems, just like everything else manufactured.

Just remember, Toyota does not make glass. No Auto maker makes glass. They all tend to put their name on the windshield from the factory though.

Insist on a warranty - from a reputable shop. Since there are numerous installers using about 3 manufactures glass - stay away from the ones you hear stories on, like in this thread.

OEM glass is e-glass. Less heat enters the cabin (at least it's a factor here in AZ). I got OEM lexus (made by Asahi, Japan) glass done at the dealer...cost to me: $0 (insurance paid all $996 smackers w/o objection over the phone w/o even having an adjuster look at it...just had to fax them the estimate and receipts).

Haven't had mine doen yet as Safelite only stocks the Bronze tint and they have to order the Green from Toyota.

Does anyone here have the Bronze tint glass? How would it look on a Dark Gray LC100 versus the Green?

DITTO DITTO DITTO.

I had the exact same experience with Safelite;

I watched the mobil technition work; he was very fast; TOO FAST,
as he skipped a few steps.

This was the first time I had watched a windshield beign replaced
in literally 30 years, so was not exactly sure of the procedure.
but afterwards, I went and checked into it.

He did not use ANY adhesive; key word here; it is not just to seal
against leaks, it is an adhesive to keep the windshield in place
in case of an accident.

He also did not prime the metal ie: from all the scratches left
from cutting the old rubber gasket out.

The generic glass was crap; I could see the optical variations
in it before he got it in the vehicle.

The end result? it leaked like a sieve and gave me eyestrain
from looking threw it.

Long story short; I complained; loudly, and they replaced it
with an OEM windshield.

However, that was not the end of the story;
three months later, I came out and it had cracked;
a stress crack from under the gasket and up about a foot long.

Called my insurance company; they will replace it, this
time with acompany of my choice;
it will be the guy who does all the glass on Mercedes. Toyotas
and BMW's in my area.

Lesson learned;
go with OEM glass, and use the guy who does all the work for
your local dealer.

Safelite in Brooklyn sucks arse. Had to bring it back twice to get the freaking mirror to stay up.

Hacks.

They don't make it, but they demand specific optical characteristics,
lack of defects, color, clarity, thickness, etc,etc,etc,

Read my other post; all glass NOT the same.

I had a non-OEM windshield put in and it was crap;
immediately noticable as lower quality (optically) than OEM.
Like looking through the wrong eyeglasses.
