I already started this thread in the 60 section but thought I'd see if anyone here has any exerience (Greg, Larry?) I need to replace the windshield on my '87. The gasket has a metal trim strip in it. I don't think it serves any purpose except to look "pretty". It makes sense to replace the gasket when I replace the window but will the new one (probably aftermarket, unless the Shaman can get one for cheap) have the features necessary for installing the old metal trim? I don't see any cracks in the current gasket so maybe I could reuse it. Is this a bad idea? How do you remove the window and gasket without destroying the gasket or busting the window? I replaced the gasket on a '76 Datsun Pickup but I didn't care if I destroyed the gasket. I just cut the lip off that held onto the glass from the outside, lifted out the glass then pulled the gasket off. Obviously, this won't work if I want to reuse my old gasket.
